It's been a day of mixed emotions on the watch front!

Basically I've had the feelers out with a few contacts of mine for a while now trying to hunt down a Navitimer Olympus for me as it has been one of my "watches to get" for a while now, but I'd kind of given up on it and started to think about getting a TT Legende instead.

Anyway this weekend just gone I had a call from someone I know to say that he'd located a NEW OLD STOCK Navi Olympus!!! :D (I wanted to keep quiet about it on here until I had a chance to see it!)

So I checked it out today, and it's here that the mixed emotions start. :? Yes it's apparently NOS (immaculate in every way), yes it's fantastic looking with the beautiful B19 semi-perpetual movement etc, and yes it's a very very good price, BUT................ and here's the killer....... at 43mm I really think it's going to be too small for me! (Notice I said it's "too small FOR ME" just to avoid any comments about big not being necessarily better, etc! ) It's certainly not tiny, but as I've said before I plan to be 100% convinced about every watch I buy to keep from now on.

But guess what......., the price was so good, I BOUGHT IT ANYWAY!! And before you think I've gone totally insane, I bought it with the express intention of selling it on, so just as a heads-up I'm planning to give you guys first refusal on here, so if you're likely to be interested, PM me and I'll give you preferential treatment! :) I'm not planning to make an absolute killing on it, but I will be making a couple of quid.... and yet the price will be very reasonable indeed.

So there we go.... a real day of mixed navitimer emotions. :?

No pics at the moment and when I do I'll post in the For Sale section accordingly, but it's the silver dial version with the black leather strap for anyone interested.

So there we go.... a real day of mixed navitimer emotions. :?

Well I'm not sure whether to comiserate or congratulate.

The Navitimer Olympus is a very nice watch, if I didn't have the 19 covered (about 3 weeks before you ask) I would certainly consider it very seriously - I personally prefer it to the Montbrillant Olympus.

Ultimately you have to be happy with your watches, so if you feel that it's too small then there's no point in keeping it in the hope you change your mind. I may think that you've gone completely bananas, but it's not my choice.

Hopefully you can add to the Legende fund and someone else on here can get a bargain.

Thanks Roff.

Yeah I've always much preferred the Navi Olympus it to the Montbrillant Olympus as well. It's a very difficult call for me to sell it on as I truly love the look of it, and the 19 movement is a real work of art, but I just know there'll be that nagging feeling about the size.

I so wanted to be 100% sure about it, but there we are........

Hi, Driver. Well, I came within a whisper of snagging a white face Oly shortly after they were discontinued in 2004 but I was on the quest for a B-1 at the time so let it go. Wifey loves the moon phase complication as do I however I was a bit disappointed in the moon/stars on the disk. At the time I felt they were a bit too dark grey in color, not enough contrast with the black on the disk. Would have to take another look at the piece to see if I still feel that way. In any case, I might consider a trade for my white face flyback Cossie if you're interested. Here's a shot of it...
Cheers,
Ron

That's a gorgeous Cossie Ron! Very tempting offer for Driver8! I would be stumped right now.

Driver- I can understand your issue with the size of the Olympus, especially after seeing your current collection. After wearing a full ling myself, everything else does seem a bit "smaller". But as an Olympus owner personally, (granted a Montbrillant) I think the awesome caliber 19 movement with the amazing dial make up for the lack of size. The moon phase is a gorgeous feature... I'll never tire of looking at it. And the wind! It's the smoothest of my 3 Breitlings (possibly a 4th on the way LOL) ... like butter! Obviously, my love affair with the Monty Olympus is still in the honeymoon stages, but I doubt I will get tired of this watch any time soon. It's a keeper! :)

If I ever bought a navi, it would be full white just like that one, Ron. Amazing!

Looking forward to seeing the pics, D8. This is a model I know very little about. I'd really like to have a Navi but this one's probably a bit beyond me at the moment.

Ron - I think I could look at that all day (although my boss might have something to say about that). Beautiful watch, and beautiful photos.

ARSE!

I gave up on finding a new Navitimer Olympus when I got my Navitimer at the beginning of the year. I almost bought an Olympus late '04 and was told they were being discontinued but thought it was just a sales pitch to get me to buy. It is my favourite Breitling :(

I'm already buying two Breitlings this week, a third would be a bit of a stretch! Though I would be interested to know how much you intend to pass it on for.

With my investment portfolio taking a slamming I might look to diversify more into timepieces!

:? Maybe I need to work at loving the size of it some more! :?

Still no pictures guys and probably wont be for a few more days as I'm not currently hooked up to a card reader to download any pictures at the mo.

@Connoisseur - I totally agree with the smoothness of the wind. I'll be honest, that when I first wound it, I actually had to put it to my ear to see if it was actually winding! And I love the dial too...... I think buying it to sell may have been the worse decision I've made because really I like it too much to sell, but the size means it's not quite 100% in my book! Arrrrgh!!!!

@Ron - The stars and moon on the moon-phase disk are actually gold metal, so much like the numerals on the SA they look either light or dark depending on the ambient light. Thanks also for the possible trade with your absolutely gorgeous Cossie. It's a lovely piece, but I think I'd fall foul of the size issue again....... (These darn Bentleys have a lot of answer for! )

Well, as soon as the For Sale sign is coming out I'll post an advert.

Driver, that thing is great, and the price seems excellent.

If you'd put this up in June, when the Australian dollar wasn't taking a pounding  , I would definitely have been interested (and I don't say that lightly).
