Hi guys by flicking through the forum I see there's plenty of knowledge to be found here and would rather ask on here then rush out and buy a breitling that I know nothing about.

I would like to know what Breitling people would buy if they had between £2000 & £3500 and would it be better to buy limited edition etc.

I really like the look of the colt but not sure if it's the Breitling people would go for and I understand everyone has a different budget.

Go with either one of the "icons": Aerospace, Chronomat or Navitimer. My 2 cents: buy what you like, regardless of what "Breitling people" will go for

Personally if it were me it would be a Superocean Heritage chronograph 46 or a Navitimer 01.

Welcome to BreitlingSource.

Buy the watch that you like and enjoy. No Breitling is going to retain value - a new watch is going to lose its value in percentage terms at the same rate regardless of model and what's important is how you feel when it's on your wrist. The two that you psoted are regular 3 hand models so fewer options for those than with chronographs, but still plenty out there. If you look at Colts bear in mind that current models are quartz vs. automatic if that works, but ultimately go to an AD, strap some on and see which one 'speaks' to you.

It's worth looking in the buy/sell/trade section. There are at least three U.K sellers with very good prices on tasty watches at the moment.

Excellent advice thanks.

I've always loved the colt and although it's the cheapest I love the look of them, so thought I would post 2 Breitlings that were more costly then the colts as I thought people would say don't get one of them!!

A quick question! You're right I should wear or buy the watch I would like to wear but is there a certain colt Breitling that people should stay clear of if you see what I mean as many people on here know the ins & outs.

There isn't a Breitling that you should 'stay away from'. The current Colt isn't one of the most beloved models because a) it is only available as a quartz which some people don't like and b) the previous generation Colt was seen as a classic design and the new one is more polarising - especially the bezel.

However, those are individual preferences, not problems with the watch and shouldn't guide your decision.

If you are looking to buy a new model Colt you have to buy quartz, there isn't an automatic option. If you want the previous generation then buy the one that suits you better. If you like the convenience of quartz - never needs to be wound if not worn, accurate to just a few seconds a year then buy that one - many do. If you prefer the sense of a mechanical machine on your wrist that seems (to many) to have more 'soul' than a battery powered piece then buy that one - many do.

If this is a beginning 'nice' watch in your collection, DON'T get the quartz. A quartz runs on electronics & battery -- not the minituarized mechanical wonder most collectors associate with high-end watches collection...

A mint pre-owned model will save you the "learning" cost for when in a few months time you'll know more abt watches & your taste will evolve & you'll decide that you want a different model after all & so you'll want to re-sell this watch you just bought a few short months ago... (you'll lose a lot less (if any) re-selling a minty pre-owned than a brand new watch).

Other than that, no wrong choice & enjoy! :D
