Post subject:  Newbie my colt 44 battery change need advice

Hi folks nice forum
I've a colt 44 bought 2009 wondering if the 8 year battery life is accurate (the jeweller I bought it from said I'd need a new battery in four to six months - 4 years ago not reassuring is it!) I wear the watch every day so it is getting a bit battered, I've seen two videos of breitling changing the battery and another of them changing the seals and polishing the watch my question is how much longer do you guys reckon the battery will last and should I send it direct to brietling and ask for the whole package including seal replacement polishing etc? I've heard that would be about £300 fair enough but also heard horror stories of it taking months before you get it back - anyone in the uk got any experience or advice? Cheers
Ian

UK members can advise more on wait times, but generally 8 - 10 weeks is normal for a full service. I wouldn't worry about servicing until the battery is done, 5 - 7 years is more realistic than 8 and that ties in with when the oils will have broken down anyway which is the main driver of servicing in an analogue watch.

Welcome to BreitlingSource.

I didn't know there are oils on a quartz movement. Can you elaborate about this? Thanks.

If the movement is analogue (i.e. has hands that move) then it has a running train - gears and arbors that mesh together. In order to reduce friction and reduce wear the arbor pivots are jeweled and oiled.

Thanks for the replies folks, should I deal directly with breitling or return the watch via the shop I purchased it from when the battery needs replaced? Do I need to ask for the polish along with the service or does that come as standard? I'm in the uk - thanks

Completely up to you whether you send it directly to BUK or through your AD. Polish is included as part of the full service, not as part of the maintenance service. After 5 - 7 years BUK will likely say that a full service / complete overhaul is required anyway but you an always specifically stipulate if you want it polished.

Complete overhaul is what I'd be looking for too. I wear the watch all day every day so it's slightly battered. Any idea of the cost I've heard£300

Costs are here - http://www.breitling.com/multimedia/pdf/sav/sav-894.pdf Hands will also be replaced and will be an additional cost.

Thanks for the price list, just need to figure out which quartz model the colt is. Why replace the hands then have to pay for it, presumably the old hands can't be put back on once they're removed?

Not sure what you mean by have to figure out which model it is. It's not a Colt 44 if you bought it in 2009 as the Colt 44 wasn't introduced until 2011, but from a servicing perspective the only cost difference is whether it has a chronograph or not. Hands are friction fit and therefore single use, no idea why Breitling doesn't include the cost in the list price for servicing.

Can anyone tell me the model of my colt and an email address to discuss with brietling a full service and battery change? The shop I bought it from 8 years ago no longer exists and they told me the battery would fail within four years? Is it normal to still be running after 8 years? Many thanks for any advice

You have Colt Quartz II A74380.
Battery span for this model is around 8 years.
Contact BUK (Breitling UK) for details.
