Hello everyone,
I recently sent my B-1 for to Breitling Italy for a well deserved service. The previous one was made by the former (and original) owner about 5 years ago; they replaced the battery, regulated the movement (was running at -30spy...) and polished and brushed the case and bracelet.

Watch now is better than new

Now the question: I read somewhere that Breitling services quartz watches for a period of 20 years. Is that true to your knowledge? May I assume that, as this particular model was discontinued in 2006, I'm OK until 2026?

That's a lot of time for a quartz watch indeed; however it's only 13 years from now and what happens if it breaks after that? Are there replacement movements available and, if yes, would you buy on "just to be sure"?

Another question: when the next battery replacement will be necessary, would you send the watch to the factory or not? I know that battery replacement is a dumb task, I do it all the time with my quartz watches, but none of those are Breitlings...

Breitling has stated that it will support its SQ movements for a minimum of 20 years after they stop using the movement. Given that the B78 is still in use that clock hasn't started running yet.

Early quartz pieces went through dramatic changes as the technology improved so no surprise that they are now obsolete and have to be replaced by donor watches. Modern movements are much more mature and they tend to evolve more slowly, so while no one can predict what the ETA thermoline range will look like 20 odd years from now it is less of an issue than it used to be, and in the case of your B-1, you don't need to start worrying about it until some time after 2033.

Is the B73 movement still in use? If not,when was it discontinued?
