My local Goldsmiths had a seawolf 1 black dial and a seawolf 2 black baton dial in stock today. Have been waiting to buy one until I could see them both side by side. The AD wouldn't let me take pics so my bullet points notes will have to do:

SW2 definately weighs more and is visibily larger. The case of the SW2 is slightly less deep but the bezel height is taller which makes the overall height of them both pretty much the same.

Face on, the SW2 bezel is wider (glass to bezel edge) and the numbers more obvious, but they are still alot more subtle than some pictures indicate. The stencil font looks great embossed into the ss. The wider bezel suits the overall larger size of the SW2

The case back on the SW2 has changed, it makes the watch sit prouder on the wrist leaving gaps between the shoulders and the wrist. The SW1 definately sits better on my 6.8 inch wrist, it hugs the wrist more than the SW2.

The shoulders on the SW2 do not drop down as severely as the SW1, meaning the SW2 doesn't wrap around a small wrist very well and the lug to lug width is now longer meaning the bracelet dropped away at 90 degrees rather than following my wrist shape.

The new pro 3 bracelet is very nice, the links are slightly less deep than the Pro2 but only fractionally. The wide centre link looks good and the design means it has less sideways flex than the pro2. The pro3 is a quality bracelet, the design is more generic than the breitling only angled links but it suits the chunkiness of the SW2. If I had to pick one, I prefer the pro3, just. The clasps on both are good, I didnt really notice any significant improvement on the pro3.

So which am I buying? The SW1. The slightly increased proportions of the SW2 make it now just a bit too big for my smallish wrist. But the main reason is how the SW2 sits. The new caseback makes the watch sit oddly on my wrist, balancing on a centre point rather than sitting flat. The longer shoulders and less severely angled lugs mean it doesn't wrap around my wrist well enough.

I like the SW2 bezel and the new bracelet but when I put on the SW1 it just feels right and I love the way such a big watch can fit my small wrist. The SW2 is still a lovely watch but it wears differently now so I'd advise anyone, even an existing SW1 owner, to try before they buy.

I'm kind of glad I still prefer the SW1, it was the watch that caught my eye a year ago and now after a year of ebaying junk I can buy it. I'm glad I waited for a few months to compare with the SW2 but it's the SW1 for me. Now I just need to decide on the colour, yellow, black or grey - too much choice and I change my mind very minute it seems!

I was in a similar position and preferred the older Avenger to the Avenger II.

I was considering getting the Seawolf 1 before buying my Avenger. I actually think the Seawolf looked better on my wrist than the Avenger, and you're right, it hugs nicely on my 6.75 inch wrist.

The only reason why I didn't go for it in the end is because I wanted a chrono.
Black gets my vote though, so versatile and easy to dress up or down.

Post pics once you've made your decision :lingsrock:

Nice detailed review. Mind you that the seawolf 1 and 2 have a different kind yellow. You might need to do another comparison! I have the Yellow Seawolf 1. That colour gets my vote.

I agree about the SW1 ... and of course in yellow. I prefer the slightly less bright yellow of the 1 than the 2

i love my seawolff 2 very very much..
black dial on black pro 3.
i havent seen a seawolff 1 in person so i cant judg!

but the case of the seawolff2 is somewhat slicker and longer.
the new bezel that matches the nummeral on the dial.
the red tip of the second hand and the red automatic written on the dial.
the lugs are somewhat different.
small changes big difference. :geek:

I own a yellow Seawolf 1 and think that's the best color:

Image

They made some changes I don't like on the new Seawolf which make a huge difference.

- Case shape
- Crown guard
- Second hand
- Numerals on dial (less contrast on yellow and font)
- Bezel (font, markings)
- lume dots on dial

The only improvement as far as I'm concerned is the red automatic writing on the dial.

For comparison, this is someone else's yellow Seawolf 2:

Yeah, actually the crown guard is what takes away from the overall look of the II. Just saying :!: I do like the longer lugs, though.

Those are both really beautiful! I do like yellow on this watch and never thought I'd say that. I probably would still go black due to my conservative black or white watch mentality.

Great write up!

Many thanks for this post I've had my new Avenger 2 seawolf on order for the last 4 weeks now and was really dissapointed about the overall thickness of the new over old, mind at ease now. still loved the seawolf 2 enough to put a purchase on it though

I was told the same in an Omega boutique (though my daughter snapped a couple regardless). Tempting to say, ok, you switch the cctv off and I won't take any photos.

I never paid notice to the crown guard of the new one until mentioned twice in this post. Def. a let down compared to the original.....
