Dear Breitling-fans

Is the base of the B17 still the ETA 2824-2 or is it now with a Sellita-base? A couple of years ago there were rumours, that Breitling won't get calibers from ETA either anymore and will receive them from Sellita.

Cheers, V.

Still the ETA 2824 as far as I know.

There is a lot of misinformation around the whole Sellita thing. As best I can tell Breitling decided a few years ago to try and mitigate the risk of Swatch group restricting access to ETA movements by producing some of the parts for those movements in house - they had invested in a lot of equipment for in house movements so it made sense to leverage that equipment as much as possible. At the same time they looked at Sellita to see whether their ETA clone movements could support the move away from ETA if it had to happen. To the best of my knowledge Sellita ebauches (or more accurately chablons) were never used, but there was some experimentation with base plates and similar stamped parts. I don't know if that is still continuing, but wouldn't be concerned if it were as it is negligible impact.

Thanks! That's what I assumed. It's not important, anyway, since Sellita and ETA closely work together anyway (my guess).
