OK, so it's around a year since we last did this and since then we have gotten new members and new watches - some of which seem to be rather well liked (the watches that is - not the members  ).

So, do you want to do this again?

As a reminder, last year we took open nominations for watches until we got to 64 and then randomly created matchups for week long votes in a straight knockout. People then voted for their preferred watch in that match up and the winner after a week moved on to the next round. I've got a lot going on over the next few weeks so it may be nearer the end of the month before I can actually get anything logistically set up, but interested at this point in knowing:

1) Do you want to do this again?
2) Do you want any changes to the format, and if so what?

Please don't nominate watches in this thread, I'll create a separate thread for that if we are going ahead.

Just as a reminder, here are last year's results - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=43020

Sounds like fun. Why not?
Something interesting to follow if you know what I mean.
Thanks for the initiative Roff!!!
Looking forward to it.

Good idea Roff. It'll be interesting to see how some of the new models fair, and also how the new "random match-ups" in the first round affect things.

Although I believe this year's winner would probably go to the Nav01 again, it's definitely everyone's wish to do it... Maybe you can also create other awards like, the most hated Breitling? Lol....

What about also having the Greatest Watch(all brands) ever? Nah...no point as the Sub will likely emerge victorious... Look forward to it and thks for initiating this again.

Random was how we did it last time (although luck threw up some interesting selections) - I wondered whether people still wanted that or something different. With random there is no guarantee that last year's finalists don't end up as a first round match (although maybe that's a good thing).

How about letting members submit as many candidates as they like to start with and then pick the 20 or so most popular ones (with the highest count) for th final rounds match up.
Might mean a lot more work for you Roff in the initial rond counting all the submissions but it will give everyone a chance to submit as many as they like.
Just thinking loud ;-

I'm just not sure how else it could be done in the first round though other than randomly.

I guess we could do some kind of seeding based on last years results, but then what do we do with "new entries"? And who decides on the matches? At least doing it randomly does away with the aggravation of trying to appease everyone from the outset by justifying the match-up decisions!

I suspect that you are right with a head to head, unless anyone else can come up with something.

There are limits to the number of polling options that you can have on any one thread so there would still have to be some kind of grouping, and then we would get in to how the groups were determined - same challenge as above. I've got no issue with some kind of grouping and then people can vote for (say) 2 out of 6 choices and the tops 2 or 3 make it through to the next round, but we would have to figure out those groups.

Instead of just Breitlings, why don't we just have a greatest watch contest? I think with breitling, it'll end up going down to the usual suspects again and I'm fairly certain the Navi 01 will end up winning.
