Breitling & Bentley.

Post subject:  Breitling & Bentley.
The thread a little while back about Pan & Ferrari was interesting as it got me thinking that whilst they aren't the greatest watches, it was even worse to have one if you didn't have a Ferrari.

It also got me thinking that the Breitling and Bentley relationship was subtly different, and to my mind, there's absolutely nothing wrong with having the watch without the car.

They are nice watches in their own right and don't scream Bentley.

So I was amused when we were at a nice do this evening when my son wandered over and declared to myself and the lovely chap I was chatting with "you both have Breitlings". My fellow guest glanced at his watch and quietly said "oh, I picked this up when I bought my Arnage".

So perhaps the car does go with the Breitling. Anyone got a Hillman Avenger for sale..?

I am not sure about Bentley Dealers in Oz, but I assume that you get to pick a watch if you buy the car. Or, perhaps you get the opportunity to buy the watch if you buy a car. :shock:

In the case of the Hillman Avenger (how about the Hunter 1725 GT!), perhaps you could square up a travel clock of some kind. :wink: My sister had a Royale (tarted up Hunter) many years ago. It was OK, except when it lost the drivers side window for no reason. It literally popped out of the door and onto the ground. Amazing.

Personally I wouldn't wear a Pam Ferrari or a B4B unless I had the car that goes with it. This is a very personal thing I guess. A few weeks ago I was very tempted by the classic looks of a B4B with a massive discount, but "for Bentley" on the dial just put me off. I would have given it a second thought if it was a regular Breitling, or if "for Bentley" was hidden on the back cover for instance.

Another example of the relationship between a car and a watch is my first Breitling pick. I bought a Superocean Heritage 46 with blue dial shortly after buying a 3 series BMW coupe in LeMans blue, pretty much the same color. If I had to relate Breitling to a car manufacturer, it would be BMW. A Rolex with a Mercedes, an Omega with an Audi. It's all very silly I guess, but it's the perception I get from these brands. I like wearing a Ling when driving the Bmer and don't enjoy it as much when driving my good old turbo charged Seat Leon (the Spanish VW Golf GTI) in which I'd rather wear a Crepas cayman for example. I like synchronicity :-) .

Hmmm.

I thought that my Breitling was getting the most wrist time as it's a lovely watch and now I realise that it's possibly because both of my BMW's are blue, as are my Skoda and my partner's Mitsubishi and that sort of matches my blue dial.

And my Heuer gets a little less as my Triumph is black to match the Heuer's dial, but the Triumph doesn't do too many miles.

Nope, that doesn't quite work as my C4K [1] doesn't get any wrist time despite being black. I thought it was because it wore a little too small. Oh, hang on, it's get green on the dial. That's it; no green vehicles :-)
