I have a sad story regarding overuse of the Cape Cods.
Briefly my brand new Skyland had a small blemish on
the side of the case opposite the pushers and crown.
I've used the Cape Cods before on other watches and bracelets
with great success. But I overdid it on my poor Skyland. I
noticed an orange peel-like texture after about 20 minutes
of polishing. So I kept polishing and polishing (dumb!), and when I finally stopped
and checked the finish under a loupe, it had gotten worse!
I stopped immediately, and called a friend who has many years of
lapidary and faceting experience, as well as jewelry polishing. He
told me the problem was grit getting onto the cloth and marring the
finish. He told me not to panic, that he would polish it to mint
condition on his polishing wheel. He's brought many watches
back to like new condition, and has a nice Breitling, Rolex, Longine collection.
I know the watch is in good hands.
My word of warning to you guys
is, Be careful with the Cods. When it gets dirty, throw it away
and get a fresh one. You can't be too careful
