Post subject:  Returning a new Breitling to the AD

I saw my father last month and he expressed some interest in an Emergency, mentioned it a couple of times to me. He is coming over the pond to see me in a few weeks time and it is his birthday so I was considering getting him one for the occasion. However, I'm not sure whether he has bought one yet, or he might even get one in duty free before the flight over as I sent him some details about AD quotes from LHR when I was last flying through there..

The problem is I can't ask him whether he's got one without giving the game away and I think that if I just give him a picture of one or anything but the watch itself he'll refuse it!

I was walking past a local AD yesterday so popped in quickly and they said it'd be no problem but based on my experience of buying I thought it could be. I asked about registration and the guy said they'd just get some new paperwork done if I returned it!

Any people from ADs on here, or who have bought and returned a Breitling to an AD for any particular reason?

Thanks

I work for an AD...

Just tell the AD to hold back the warranty. They should still let you take the rest of paperwork with you. At my AD, we allow 30 days for to decide if its ''the one''. But it has to be in NEW condition if returned. We will hold on to the warranty until a customer calls with yay or nay and if they do decide to keep it or the gift was accepted, we fill out and send out the warranty to them. Each time a new warranty is requested from Breitling, we have to pay for it. It is not that big of a deal and if the customers insists, we do give them the warranty filled out. I say buy it, suprise your father. Let the AD know whats happening and they should be more than understanding if you have to bring it back.

Where are you located btw? Perhaps I might help...

Ive returned one after about a week. It was clearly worn, and even had some very light scuffs on the clasp. I didnt hide this fact from them, and they didnt seem to mind. It wasnt a return outright though--I exchanged it for a different model.

My AD gave my wife 7 days from the date of gift (well disclosed in advance) to allow me to make sure this was the one I wanted.

Not quite the same situation, but when I was waiting for my wife's custom piece I was offered a substitute Breitling if the order wasn't completed by Christmas. That way I would have a gift for my wife to open at Christmas and she would have a watch to wear until her 'real' one arrived from Switzerland - potentially several weeks later.

I'd then simply return the loaner and pick up the real one. The fact that I'm a repeat customer probably helped, but a good example of typical Breitling AD service.

I would think it would all depend on the AD...
