Hi all,

Long time watch enthusiast without the bank balance to match :wink:

However I will very soon be taking delivery of a shiny new Breitling! However I'm after some input, I'm opting for the SOH 46 and cannot decide to go for the chrono or not.

I'm looking to have this as a casual watch so the chrono seems to fit the bill, but I'm concerned about the extra case thickness.

So really looking for input from people that have owned and worn both to see how they found it.

You miss out on one of Breitling's key strengths not going for a chrono IMO. The brand really excels at complicated but very well executed dials. The more numbers on the dial the better. Plus the chrono opens up the watch as more than just a time piece. Some dials are more legible than others though.

Simplistic non-chrono watches are done better by Rolex or Omega IMO.

No idea about thickness though other than to say than its something that you get used too. But if fitting under a shirt cuff is going to be an issue I try and demo the models at an AD beforehand.

I'd agree on account of rolex, but omega has been on a downward spiral ever since they started charging twice as much for their collection, pricing the watches alongside much more exclusive and, dare I say it, better competition.

I half-agree, in that I don't like the commercial direction Omega have taken (what as you say looks like some cynical pricing, opening boutiques which won't discount and cutting off supply to ADs etc), but aesthetically Omega are getting an awful lot right at the moment, releasing one stunner after another.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Although I like some of Omega's designs, they seem to be running out of ideas. Supersizing models and bringing in more colors.
But good designs are only part of the battle, the other is brand recognition and percieved value. Few buy an omega instead of a similarly priced jaeger. Fewer still buy one instead of a rolex.

It all depends on your personal taste. I think the SOH is one of Breitling's better looking three hand watches, though at 46 millimeters, that's a lot of real estate for three hands. I personally like the 42 at three hands and the Chrono for 46. That said, I don't think I could comfortably wear a 46. Please do try them both on for thickness. New Breitlings are thick watches,., and they simply aren't for everybody. As your first really nice watch, I can only suggest that you spend a little time with it at the store to make certain you're comfortable with the size and the look. Good luck.

I love the SOH 46 non chrono. I prefer the simplicity of the dial over the chrono and wears well formal and informal. Would prefer it at 42mm or 44mm (I purchased it when 42 was not a model yet) but at 46mm it still wears great on my smaller wrist. Have both the rubber strap with the deployant buckle and the mesh bracelet. Both are amazing. I am sure you can't go wrong with either model.

On another note I just bought an Omega Seamaster 300M black dial with the ceramic bezel. The finish and build is amazing as they are with my two breitlings.

Beautiful watches. I bought the long-in-the-tooth 300M GMT as I like the outgoing wave dial, and it has a clear caseback, but the new ceramics are very arresting and well finished.

Good choice! I have SOH 46 non chrono myself and it is beautiful :lingsrock:

I beg to differ. generally speaking I find the minimalistic non-chono Breitling watches the most interesting ones. I'm not keen on bling cases and super-saturated dials. The only chronos I would consider are the Blackbird and the SOH Chrono 44 (two sub-dials instead of three), which I find both absolutely stunning. Still, I find the latest Omega PO chrono 9300 more accomplished.

I love a busy dial, definitely chrono for me - but even without, still a nice piece, congrats!
