Hi All - I'm new to this, and have done a little research. I want to buy my husband his first Breitling watch. My local dealer has a avenger sea wolf? I think my husband wants a brown leather strap, and this is on a brown strap. It's £2810, it is from Fraser Hart, can any discount be negotiated on these watches? I didn't want to spend much over £3000 as we have just got my married 2 weeks ago and that took most of our cash! Any help or suggestions would be very welcome

The main question is what type of watch do you think he would want? A dress watch? A dive watch? A chronograph (i.e. 'stop watch') The Avenger Sea Wolf is a great watch, and very durable. However it is also quite a large watch (particularly in thickness) . Some guys like large watches (and if they have large wrists it suits them) whereas others like slightly smaller watches. Yes a discount can usually be negotiated, have a look at places like eBay, Chrono24 and look at a few other watch shops to get a rough idea of the going price. It'll generally be cheaper online, so don't expect the same discount in a bricks and mortar shop, BUT buying it from shop can be less stressful, and the watch is then back by a warranty when you buy from an authorised dealer like Fraser Hart (which you wouldn't get buying online) |

Hi - thanks for your reply. He is a carpenter by trade, so has a fairly large wrist/arm. I guess this watch is mainly for dress watch for evenings/weekends. I would like to buy from a AD and locally would be good, but obviously I would like a deal at the same time. I think he would like the avenger sea wolf, so just checking that its a good choice from anyone men's point of view

Some ADs post items on offer on Chrono24 website, but I recommend you to go to that particular shop first and see that watch yourself before comitting. Those tend to be returned watches, worn by staff or older display models, with the protection stickers removed. You might find minor cosmetic issues with those. But as a sports/casual watch for the weekend it's probably fine. I wouldn't wear it doing any manual work, though - the size would be a liability and it will pick up all sorts of dings and scratches. The (non-chrono) Transocean might be a better bet; it's got a large face, but the style is dressier. You might find one on a standard leather strap for around your maximum with a good discount. |

Not to naysay, but I wear my seawolf to do all types of yard work and cut down trees with it and everything.. It's a rugged watch and there should be no problem as far as scratches are concerned. The brushed finish on the outer parts of the watch help to toughen the way h a bit, I get more scratches on my SA simply from wearing it then my seawolf or BB for that matter doing chores and work.
