I'm currently in the market for a chunky diver's watch and although I initially thought the Super Avenger fitted the bill, after trying it on I think my wrist may be too small to carry it off. I had a look at the Avenger, but it wasn't as thick as the Super and it's not available in an all-black baton dial. The sales guy then introduced me to a black baton'd Seawolf, which was almost perfect (dial and thickness). But I wasn't too keen on the two tone brushed/polished effect, I much prefer full polished. I was thinking that if I did go for the Seawolf, that I might try and polish the brushed bits with capecod. How hard do you think it will be to get a finish to match the rest of the case? I mean, it's only the lugs and bezel face that would need doing, so doesn't seem like a big job to me (if it was the whole watch case and crown, I wouldn't bother). Would it be frowned upon to modify a Breitling in this manner? Plus, will I have any problems when I send it back to Breitling for a service? |

Hi Daveyboy, I would think it would be quite a job with a cape cod. Breitling would likely return it to its origionally designed finish i think in such a case. I am no longer up to date with the range but have you looked through the chronolog to see if there is a perfect match for you? |

Some of the Chronomat versions come in polished/brushed combination but the inhouse movement puts them in a different price category. Have you considered the Chrono Superocean! That comes with a polished case. They stopped making them in 2011 but you may still be able to find one at some ADs or look for one in the used market. http://www.breitlingsource.com/watch_de ... an_75.html |

Breitling seems to have become more tolerant of minor changes like polishing brushed finishes, but I would definitely point out that it's been done deliberately before sending it in for service. Cape Cods will do the job, but getting it done by a jeweller would be a lot less work. Also as bnewbie points out, check out the Avenger II released this year at Basel. |

Entirely up to you if your watch is modded or not. Some might frown on this practice, but hey, what the heck......... It’s your watch. I would go the Avenger II route though as I think that’s a better option. You just might have to wait till one is in your neck of the woods. Getting a consistent polished finish over a brushed finish, even in small areas like lugs and bezel, may not be as easy as it first appears to be. Yes, you could get someone else to do it for you, but if you want to do it yourself you will probably need some rotary tools to speed up the process and to keep consistency. I think you could run the risk of an indifferent finish, and you might need some practice first (if like me, you are not used to using rotary tools) before attacking the surface. Cape Cod might be a good medium, although I doubt it, as you have to keep in mind it’s essentially a hand application. The brushed effect should outlast cleaning by hand, so it might take quite a bit of elbow grease to get the desired effect. I would worry about that. Best of luck with it either way. |
