Gotten a couple different prices from ADs recently, but they around 15% more than prices I've gotten from Non-ADs... I was under the impression that the ADs could come fairly close to other jewelers, even non-ADs. Does this sound normal? I am looking at Chronomats... Maybe it's because they are very popular?

Thanks!

Another question... Are all the retailers listed on Breitlings website considered Authorized Dealers?

Thanks

Yes. (You don't say where you are globally, that will help people with their replies re pricing.)

Are your non-AD's online dealers like jomashop or authenticwatches? And to answer you 2nd question, yes, the dealers listed on their website are the only ones considered authorized that can offer a valid breitling backed warranty.

Sorry,

I am located in Florida... I just got back from a cruise to Jamaica and Cozumel... I got really good prices while I was down there, but in the past I had gotten quotes from ADs here with better pricing. When I was referring to non-ADs I was talking about the authenticwatches and websites like them... But I am still running into the ADs in the US about 10%-12% more even with ADs that were at the ports I stopped in. Even the jeweler on the boat had better pricing and that included a watch winder as well. I am thinking I should've pulled the trigger while on the boat! Hope that makes since?

BUSA has limits in place for what their authorized dealers can do on price. One thing to consider if you're looking at the Chronomat B01 is that buying from an authorized dealer gives you a 5 year Breitling warranty on their in house movements. While it may be a good movement, do a search on here for some of the problems associated with it and I'd be willing to pay a little more for the added years on my warranty.

100% agree on this. A 5yr warranty on a relatively new movement is a valuable thing.

I agree about the warranty, but what I am saying is that the Dealers I got quotes from while on the cruise were about 12% cheaper than the dealers here and they are on Breitlings website, so they must be authorized. So, it would've been cheaper to just buy them from the AD in Cozumel, Jamaica or the jewelry store on the boat, also an AD, on the boat I was on.... All three are listed on Breitlings website. I was under the impression that the ADs in the US could do as good if not better than the ADs that are in ports for Cruise ships.

BUSA are clamping down on discounts, the future is smaller discounts and there may be an adjustment period where grey market dealers have a slightly larger price advantage because of that, but there are a few points to consider - the largest being the warranty. Also, as you noted, the Chronomat is a popular model so......

Why would an AD sell to a grey market dealer? Customer return perhaps? Lemon? Both are possible options and would be yet another reason to stick with an AD - especially for the sake of 10 - 15%.

As for cruise ship vs. US, as noted BUSA are clamping down so non BUSA controlled ADs may have some additional advantage. However you have to factor whatever taxes / duties you will be liable for bringing in to the US. No idea what that would be in FL, but worth checking.

I was wondering about the duties or tariffs... The jewelers advertise big time that everything is... "Duty Free!" Of course there are no sales taxes, but what happens when you put you acquired a $7,000 watch on your customs form... I'm not too sure about that. I am going to research it, unless someone on here knows. I am considering delaying my purchase until I go on another cruise. We are talking about $1,000 difference and thats with me talking to the jeweler for about 10 minutes. I think I could've gotten another couple hundred out of them! Thank for you all for your help!

I don't know if this is right, but I found this site... I think it might be talking about shipping though, and I am not sure if there is a difference between shipping it here or just walking back into the US with it.

I think by law you'd have to pay the same. I think shipping it will be harder to avoid taxes but if it's on your wrist walking through a cruise terminal, odds are nobody will question it. I've been on several cruises and the customs agents have never asked about any of my watches when I've worn them.

Well I wouldn't trust the results in that link because it states country of manufacture as Mexico which clearly it wouldn't be, but as Justin says, import duty and sales tax liability is no different whether you ship or carry. Whether you choose not to declare it when crossing the border is completely up to you, but technically that is a criminal offence and your customs declaration will require you to expressly state that you are declaring everything.

Do you guys ever haggle with your ADs or do you ask them their price, they give it to you and you just take it or leave it? I'm a bit of a haggler and cheapskate if you can't tell by now... If I don't feel like I am getting a good deal, I walk away! Even when I get a good deal on something, I still walk away wondering if I could've done better! lol

Personally I dislike haggling but that doesn't mean I take it or leave it. I ask various places for their best prices and then you can push the place you might most want to deal with to match the keenest price you've been given. In the UK we're lucky: the two forum sponsors combine excellent service with very fair prices so there's no reason to go anywhere else.
