Hi...This is my first post in the forum, so here goes:

I have a month-old SuperOcean 44 (quite happy with it, so far) and am wondering if I'd be wasting my time if I have the watch returned for attempts at dialing in its accuracy a bit better. Right now, it consistently gains 6 seconds per day, which, as I understand, is within the original specification for the watch. So, since I'm rather picky about accuracy, would you think that the factory can actually tweak it in a little more accurately? Yes, I know it's not like the super quartz version of Breitling's watches (10 seconds/year), but, for a mechanical watch, is mine as good as it gets?

A watchmaker can regulate the watch to more accuracy on his bench, but there is no guarantee that it will stay that way in the real world. Your watch is still settling and will likely slow down slightly over the next few weeks. It is also affected by temperature, temperature change, amount of power reserve, position, etc, etc, etc. Bottom line is that there is no point in trying to regulate it further and you would likely be charged for it because it is already within COSC specs of -4 / +6 seconds per day.

Relax and enjoy it, expect it to settle a little more as it adapts to you, and if you rest it on its back overnight then try leaving it on its side crown up which will also help it to run a little slower.

Thank you for your input, including the tips about the overnight positions. I'll be more patient with it as it "settles over time". I will also try the crown UP position and see how that affects it, but, as you point out, it's all too new and may not yet react to these physical input positions.

+1 to what Roff says. I think getting too wound up [sic] about the accuracy spoils the pleasure of having a mechanical. I'm an accuracy freak too - hence having a SuperQuartz to satisfy that impulse - but since my mechanical (Omega) gains a few secs a day I just readjust it weekly: esp if it's gaining of course it's dead easy just to stop the movement for 20 seconds and get it bang on again. It's part of that rhythm of life with a mechanical which gives the pleasure.

Personally I'm also consoled by contemplating the science of it: ie I think it's stupefying that a load of springs and wheels beating thousands of times an hour can be anywhere near as accurate as, say, 6 seconds a day.

If you have a warrantee on this watch, and you do decide to try and settle the accuracy issue, then make sure you return it to a Breilting AD for any work to be carried out. They would probably advise you that there is not an issue though and no work would be required.

If it were me though, I think it sounds like its running just fine and I would not worry about it.

Thank you, folks, for your encouraging comments about my concerns. It's my first high-quality mechanical that I like, but did have a Rolex Datejust many years ago, which, BTW, also had the issue with accuracy ( a few seconds/day). However, I am already looking at Breitling's Chronospace Limited Edition (SuperQuartz). Yes, I have the original factory warranty on this one, so, in case I have to cash in on it, I won't be concerned with their repair/adjustment of it. BTW, does anyone know if the SuperQuartz versions have a "jump" second hand or are they also the "sweep" versions like the mechanical ones?

I appreciate everyone's assistance and knowledge offered here.
