Figuratively of course because it's a massive watch. I bought my super avenger around 5 years ago when I was in the infancy of my 20s. I just loved how massive it was and it's wrist presence. I enjoyed the watch over the years but as I have gotten older I felt that the size was a bit too much and at times looked like the watch was wearing me. It probably was just too big of a watch from the getgo but I didn't think that way before. In the past I dismissed rolex as brand I wasn't much interested in. I regarded it as a watch people bought as a default who didnt know much about watches. However, as they started to update some of their models and with the advent of ceramic bezels I fell in love with the brand. I recently had the opportunity to get my hands on a pristine datejust II steel/ white gold rhodium dial/ arabics through govberg. Between my SA and my CSO I decided it was going to be the big man that was going to be traded (I couldn't justify keeping the SA) even though it I would have liked to.

Don't get me wrong, the super avenger definitely had/would have had its place in my collection and I wish I could have kept it but trading it gave me the ability to put, what I think, is just a much more refined watch on my wrist. A watch that screams just as loud as the SA despite it being 7.4mm smaller.
For now I'm happy with the DJII and CSO as my current 2. Will I add another breitling down the line? Probably, but something in the 44-46 range.
Pics to follow at some point.

One of the fun things about this hobby is that when tastes change, there is a watch that matches that. I LOVED my SA when I got it. I'm a big guy, and it wore well on my wrist. That was just over two years ago. I'm 50 now, and although I can still pull it off, I let my SA go, as my taste changed. Wearing a 40mm ceramic Sub would seem miniscule but it doesn't. The DJII is a superb choice IMO, and you're right about it being a more "refined" piece. Congrtas on the Rolex, and you may consider one of the new Chronomats as your next. :)

Thanks 46crew. Like you said, it's sad to see something go but when tastes change you gotta switch it up. I don't know whether it's great marketing or what but when you put a Rolex on it really feels like you've arrived and you're wearing something special.

hey youre not the only one. about a year ago i made the same move. the reality is that the SA is a great watch if you have a huge wrist. or youre a very big guy. but most peoples wrist size is some where around 7 inches in circumference and the SA just looks like clock on their wrists.

its a great watch and probably one of breitlings best sellers but its definitely not for everyone.

when i got rid of mine (white dial with batons) i came to realize that this was not a watch that i could wear forever.

Yes, it's marketing.

That said, Rolex is never a bad investment. That's usable currency on your wrist if you get in a pinch LOL

I'm in a very similar position.
Had my SA for almost 3 years and although I've always been into big watches, recently I've started to grow a little tired of the hugeness of it.

I've been considering downgrading to an Avenger because I still like the watch design, but feel the smaller version sits better on my 6.75inch wrist.

Have also considered trading it in for an Omega PO and I have also looked at a DJII myself.

Peezie, part of it is marketing yes, I agree. However, another component is the design/ styling and for of Rolex. The breitling super avenger is a watch that screams look at me due to its size. On closer exam one sees the quality of the dial and over finish of the watch. The datejust II, and other Rolex watches, don't scream look at me, but rather whisper it. Due to marketing and the recognizable traits (cyclops lens, ceramic or fluted bezel) the discerning eye may recognize that a Rolex is indeed, a rolex. Upon closer exam its the finish of the watch that makes one appreciate that Rolex is more than marketing. I think what I'm trying to day is they the size of the SA almost takes away the fact that the SA is such a well finished watch while the size of the Rolex complements its marketing established refined image.

I don't know man, a DJII??? Any personal reason? I guess your age bracket is 30-35? What are you gonna be wearing when you're in your 50s, Churchill"s Breguet? Do you feel like retiring, buying a Merc and smoking cigars with your slippers on? Come on!!!

I just recently saw a guy wearing a SA, he was a bigger guy too, and it still looked like a giant saucer on his wrist. I applaud the move if it's not right for you...

Hahahha this made me laugh as I just turned 35 and I am wearing my slippers on the patio of my house typing on tappatalk with the rolex strapped to my wrist.

At the moment, as a 50 year old who has had a non-stop seven weeks of pressure-cooker work, with one down week now and then another 8-10 coming, this sounds pretty wonderful. I'd love a Breguet again, though I do miss not having a Rolex. Lagavulin tastes a bit like a good cigar. I love my 135 i, but I'd "settle" for an AMG of some sort. Retirement is nowhere on the horizon, however. Can I be this guy?
