Hi all,
Probably a very silly question, however...........

I was just looking at the Breitling Australia's service price list and it contained the following info;

SUGGESTED RETAIL PRICES IN AUD – AUSTRALIA Including 10% GST.
Prices subject to change without prior notice.

..............................................................MAINTENANCE SERVICE...........COMPLETE OVERHAUL
AUTOMATIC and AUTOMATIC GMT...........................180.00................................440.00
MECHANICAL CHRONOGRAPH..................................220.00...............................630.00
AUTOMATIC CHRONOGRAPH with COMPLICATIONS.....250.00...............................750.00

Now the silly question is; what is the difference between each category?
My Chronomat is an automatic watch, or then again is it a mechanical chronograph, but is the 'complication' appropriate as it has a complication as such in the date window?

Would love clarity here.

This is my best take on what they are saying. I could be wrong, so lets see what others think too.

AUTOMATIC and AUTOMATIC GMT. Centre second watch, which is a mechanical automatic movement with the added extra of a second time zone.

MECHANICAL CHRONOGRAPH 2, 3 or 4 sub dial manual wind watch movement.

AUTOMATIC CHRONOGRAPH with COMPLICATIONS Well, anything above a centre sweep is a complication in theory and IMO, but I guess as they have a set out some guidence on the two previous categories, I would suggest anything that is an auto 2, 3 or 4 sub dial and perhaps a second time zone, etc. Wonder if this would include the QP?

A Chronomat would fall into the Mechanical Chronograph category. I assume they call in mechanical chronograph instead of "automatic chronograph" as Breitling also do manual wind chronograph movements - the B02 for instance.

An Automatic Chronograph with Complication is a chronograph with some additional function (beyond just the date), such as a GMT, or a semi-perpetual calendar, or QP, etc.

(Incidentally, anything over and above telling the time is a complication, so technically speaking that would include the date, but Breitling don't seem to class it that way).

So in summary, a Chronomat comes under Mechanical Chronograph.

What about the Montbrillant Datora then?
It might 'just' be telling the date, but the additional hand & two windows PLUS the three sub dials must surely qualify for the 'Auto with Complications' tag & the $750 charge???

Generally speaking, Breitling only prices calibre 19 / 29 pieces into the 'with complications' category - i.e. semi / full perpetual, but might be worth checking with the Australian service centre.

There is also an additional category now for in house movements which are of course more expensive to service.
