Post subject:  Scratch on crystal?

Hello,

I just noticed this mark on my crystal. It looks like a tiny white speck of dust, but won't come off no matter how hard I try to clean it. There is no texture to it, and you cannot feel it when you rub a finger over it. This is extremely frustrating since I am so careful with my watch. I tried to capture it in this photo. It is the white speck in between the second baton and the Breitling logo. I was planning on sending my watch into BUSA this year anyways for maintenance. Is this something they can fix? Anyone have any thoughts on what it might be or how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Is it dust on the underside?

If it is related to AR coating, it will require a new crystal. (myne for the sewolf was $500 just for the crystal)

If you cant feel it, its probably dust. Theyll get it taken care of during maintenance.

Thanks for the responses. How would dust suddenly appear on the underside of the crystal?

Could well have been there somewhere less visible and just migrated through movement of the watch.

Can be static that does it. I have noticed this too on occassions, with some of my watches. As Roff suggests, dust laying in an non visible area will relocate due to movement or static.

I've found something similar inside my steelfish. Just dropped it off today for an overhaul.
I'm sure that it'll be gone when I pick it up.
Dust has a knack of getting places that you'd never think was possible....

Man I wish there was a definitive way to determine if its just a piece of dust.

The video for the breitling manufacturing process noted that the assembly area had special standards for air purity but they did not say clean room. So all our watches have the potential to have the same problem?

Just as an update, I brought the watch into a jeweler today, and he verified that it was a piece of dust. I was planning on sending it in to BUSA later this year anyway, where I assume they'll obviously take care of it. Anyway, it's a relief knowing its not a scratch in the AR coating.
