First of all, I should let you know that I'm a first time buyer.

I've had my eye on a steelfish for ages now, but as I get closer to buying it, I'm beginning to hesitate.

The reason is because I'm debating whether to hold on for a little while and go for one of the more extravagant models that have been catching my eye lately like the Navitimer World and Bentley 6.75.

Then there's the question of which watch I will get the most wear out of.

So, what I guess I'm saying is, do I buy the fish now (which I will love), or do I wait and go for the ultimate piece (in my eyes).

I'd appreciate your thoughts

Get the one you like more. Simple. If it means waiting a while longer, so be it. Although I guess the point that the 6.75 costs triple the price should be noted.

Maybe get the steelfish to hold you over, and use it as motivation to get the dough saved up for the 6.75.

I say go big or go home ;)

J/K I only say that because the love for the 'settled upon watch' will be short lived as you will always be eyeballing the Worlds and 6.75's :o

The Steelfish may be one of the most under valued models in the Breitling lineup. In my opinion in smokes the Seadweller for less than half the price. But alas, this is a Breitling board...

You have to buy the watch that appeals most - you won't be happy otherwise. I would normally say wait until you can afford the one you really want, but as others have noted there is a huge difference in price between the fish and the 6.75, with the World not exactly being a 'bargain' option either.

While we might all say that it doesn't matter because you'll end up with them all, if you are looking for a daily wearer you need to balance up theone you want with the amount of money that you are comfortable with wearing on your wrist. When I first bought a Breitling there was no way that I would have considered walking around with a $5,000 plus watch on my wrist, I just wouldn't have been comfortable with it and that would reduce the enjoyment.

Zidane,

I once faced a similar decision to the one you're now facing. But with me
it was, Steelfish or Skyland? I bought the Steelfish first because
I knew I couldn't wait any longer to have another Breitling on my
wrist. (I did have an Evo but had to sell it -- bills, bills, bills!)

I don't regret my decision. I had to wait a couple more years before
I was able to buy my Skyland, but having that Fish (which I'm now wearing)
helped keep me sane :?

Buy your Fish -- it makes a great everyday watch, but you'll never
get tired of it as you save for your "ultimate" timepiece. :)

Steve

Buy the steelfish and save up for the "grail" Breitling. Everyone should own a couple nice watches anyways...right?

I was in almost exactly the same situation. I bought the Steelfish, and I love it (it's on my wrist right now). But you *will* be going back for another one sooner than you expect. :)

As I read your post, you really really like the Steelfish but you might think you want the 6.75 more...

In that case, following the most common advice (go with the one you like best) would be to get the Steelfish. It is also a more "everyday" watch in most people's mind, you can both dress it up and down. And, it likes water much more than any Navi...

Good luck with the hunt!
