I have been looking at purchasing a Breitling over the last few weeks. I have been debating between the SuperOcean 44 and the Omega Seamaster. I went on a cruise this past week to Alaska and came across a small AD in Ketchikan. I talked to the guy for a while and he worked a great deal for an Abyss Blue 44 which is what I have been looking at. It definitely made the deal much better when I found that the sales tax in Ketchikan was only $60 for an item over $1,000 as opposed to 8.25% here in Houston. I was also happy to see my watch came in the bakelite box and not the cardboard I have been reading about on here.

After I purchased the watch we were on a very short time schedule and I didn't have time to get it sized as we were getting close to our departure from the city on the ship. So I looked to see if there was another Breitling AD in the next two ports so I could get it properly sized. I found another small AD in Skagway, AK and headed straight there once we got off the ship. While I was there talking to the guy dealer as I was getting my watch sized we were discussing local places to eat in the town. As he told me where to go another man behind the counter approached the dealer and was also inquiring about where to go as he was just in town for the day. The dealer told me that I was in the store at a good time because it was the Breitling rep for the area. He and another woman were traveling around Alaska visiting there dealers just to do check ups on the stores. I talked to the Breitling rep for a while as my watch was getting sized and told him how much I really liked the brand and have been looking at them for some time. We ended up going to eat at the same restaurant as the two Breitling reps and sat right next to them because the place was so crowded. We were there for about an hour and just talked for the entire time about Breitling and other conversational topics. As we left I asked him for his card and low and behold it was Thierry Prissert, President of Breitling USA. Turns out he was there with his Breitling regional rep just making a view visits as he hadn't been to that area before.

I thought that was a pretty cool thing to happen when I had just purchased my first Breitling, in Alaska, to meet him. He is an extremely nice guy and very approachable. I wouldn't know what to expect meeting the President of such a great company but he was a great guy and definitely gave me more faith in the brand after talking with him. He knew my local Breitling jeweler, Lewis Jewelers, and spoke very highly of them and recommended having any Breitling issues taken care of by them.

Anyway I am also very new to the forum hence the new Breitling purchase and thought I would just share my story!

Great story and first Breitling purchase experience! Congrats and welcome to BreitlingSource.

By the way, how was the Alaskan cruise? My wife and I are thinking about going on one possibly this summer.

Depends on your lifestyle I think. I went with my fiance and her family. It was my second time to go and I loved it. We are from Texas so I definitely enjoy cooler weather every chance I get. It is a bit on the pricey side and to really enjoy it in my opinion you need to do the more expensive excursions. We did a Totem Pole Park tour and a Sled Dog camp that her mom had picked out and they were just boring. Complete waste of money and way to many people. The third excursions we did I picked out for the two of us and it was a helicopter ride through the mountains onto a glacier and they leave you to walk around with some guides for about 45min and that is where the true beauty of Alaska is. I would definitely recommend the helicopter glacier ride (this was my second time to do this excursion) and some type of sea/float plane viewing tour or one that lands somewhere else for a meal.

We did Celebrity Cruises this time and I did Norwegian last time. This cruise ship was much newer and up to date but the overall population of people on the cruise were definitely 65+. From what we saw in town Princess cruises definitely had a more active group on board which I think can really add to the enjoyment of the cruise.

Thierry is a great guy and a wonderful person to chat with! Too bad you didn't have time for a round of golf in (of all places), Alaska, as he swings a mean driver.

Great story! What a great way to start your ownership! At a watch event here in Indy, I spent 30 minutes talking to the Breitling rep and really enjoyed the time.

No we took a cruise from Seattle through the port cities and back. But I have been there a few times when I was younger. I lived in the San Juan islands in Washington for 2 years some time ago.
