Post subject: | Help! Fiance Gift - Superocean Heritage 46 - Chrono or not? |
Hello, So I am new to Breitling (well to all luxury watches actually) and am planning on buying my fiancé a Superocean Heritage 46 as a surprise gift to give him on our wedding day (in 2 weeks). I have done a fair bit of research and want to purchase ASAP, but I don't know whether to go for the chronograph version or not? The non-chrono appeals to me aesthetically as a dress watch now (though originally I preferred the chronograph until the lady in the shop called it a sports watch and said it wouldn't go with a suit, and I want him to be able to wear it on our wedding day). Am I buying an inferior watch by opting for the non-chrono, or is it still a good choice? My fiancé has always lusted after Breitling watches (he is in the aviation game - an engineer) and relates to them because of his passion for aviation, so I know he will LOVE either. I just want to make sure I am making the right choice, because it's a watch he will have for the rest of his life. Cost wise there is only $1,281 Australian dollars between the two models. Please help! Any and all advice is appreciated!!! Thank you!!! ![]() |

I'd go with a Chrono as a personal preference, it part of what Breitling is famous for. |

First off what a great gift for your fiancé, and congrats on the nuptials. I do have to warn you though that the night you present him his gift you may find his eyes on his wrist more often than you. haha In terms of the best for a suit and tie/ wedding day event, I would say the non-chrono has a slight edge since I think it is slightly thinner. I disagree with the salesperson that the chrono would not be suitable as a dress watch. As long as the case can fit under a shirt cuff I don't think there is any watch that cannot be worn with a suit. You also mentioned that your husband is in engineering, which may also mean that a chrono would actually be a useful function from time to time. I rarely have anything useful to time, and still do so just to play with my watch. Your soon to be hubby could use this at work or while timing the steaks on the grill, and that is a big bonus. In that case I would vote function over form with the chrono version. Both are great choices though, and he will be enamored with either. |

From those two choices I'd go with non chrono version. However, I don't agree with the lady in the shop about the chrono clashing with a suit. Also, I'd check out the 44mm version of the chrono. It only has two subdials and looks much better than the 46mm chrono. ![]() |

At 46mm neither is really a dress watch in the true sense. Buy the watch that he will like best and enjoy for the rest of your life together - who cares what sales people (or a bunch of us strangers say)!! ![]() |

Congrats, I sure wish my wife would have given me a ling on our wedding day. I would have to vote for the chrono version because of his job. I would suggest taking a look at the navitimer due to his passion for aviation. The navitimer is the watch that put breitling on the map in the field of aviation. It has a slide rule that can be used for many calculations. Either way I'm sure he will love his watch and you even more for giving it to him. Good luck |

Thank you so much for all of your great advice and congratulations! It was unanimous for the chrono then, thank you. I will also check out the other suggestions (navitimer & 44). I am very excited to surprise and spoil him a little on our wedding day! Thank you for your advice and opinions, it is sincerely appreciated! |

The chrono is the way to go. I have a Super Avenger which is bigger and thicker and that fits under my suit cuff nicely. They Heritage Chrono is a timeless piece and your fiancé will cherish it for years and years. Great gift choice. |

I was still only recalling the limited editions from a few years back. I personally like the two dial layout, but each person has their preference. 46mm is a big watch, and a 44mm might be a great second option while still sticking with the chrono. Good luck with the decision. |

Get the chrono for functionality, the non-chrono for cleaner looks. If he's a pilot, consider the navitimers. |

Which watch will light up his face when he sees it? That's all that counts (especially given that he's like to end up buying a second, third, fourth watch anyway!). |

+1 for the chrono ![]() If its likely to be his only watch, this will do 'everything in one', so to speak. I have the Chronomat with 3 sub dials & wear this with a suit quite happily. Lets be honest though, he'll love it either way! |

Not sure how big the 46 wears, but I think of that as around my ideal size and have an 8" wrist. If your wrist is smaller, to me the 44 would be a no-brainer choice. Better size and better looking. |

Dear oh dear oh dear! Where were you when I was looking for a wife? ![]() Definitely Chrono. As an engineer I'm sure he is a "gadget" man hence the more features the better. |
