Hi all! I'm working at a conference in Newcastle, there are quite a few nice watches around, some fakes too ![]() I saw a really pretty Evolution on one of the presenters wrists as I was fixing his Powerpoint presentation for him. I said, oh nice watch, can I take a closer look? Sure, he say's, it's a Breitling. ![]() Is it the Evolution I ask? No, he replies, It's the 1884, a birthday gift from my wife. I love this watch. So, on reflection. I guess it matters not one bit how much you know, but it's the sheer pleasure of owning a beautiful watch that matters. He never even noticed my E ![]() D |

It's the 1884 - priceless. ![]() The reason I went on a hunt for and finally found a blue dial 13352 Chronomat is because I saw one on a lawyers wrist during a deposition and thought - "damn that's a nice looking 13352." When I complimented him on it after the deposition he told me he bought it as a 40th birthday present for himself and it was his first and only "nice watch." All he knew about it was "it's a Breitling." That experience reaffirmed what I have always believed - 99% of nice watch buyers find a watch they like and wear it forever. The other 1%, that would be us, are truly the odd ones. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It can get awkwards at times. Most people I try to spark up conversation with don't even know what model they're wearing. It always ends up as a gift received or even at times fake. |

They think I'm nuts to have as many watches as I have and they don't understand why I don't sell everything and just get something really nice like a Rolex ![]() |

Just last weekend I mentioned to some guy standing next to me in a valet line, "I like your aerospace". He says, "It's a Breitling". I answered with "yes it is" I complimented a guy on his steelfish once and he came back to tell me, (after inspecting the dial) "it's a super ocean". Most are not into it as much as us, that's for sure. |

All true. I'm not one to talk to strangers - being English... - but on the few occasions I have made some watch comment I've met with those sorts of semi-detached responses. Or been told cheerfully, "oh, it's a fake"... |

I had a similar experience recently. I started an internship at a law firm. A few weeks later I had a meeting with the partner and I said, "I see you have a datejust. I have one too. It's a great watch." He was bewildered and told me that it was a Rolex ![]() ![]() |

Nothing wrong about that, they're just at a different stage of the evolution. We're all creatures of God after all. Tell them about the poor finish of the case between the lugs in a Submariner, and the cra*** steel deployment clasp (tin more like it), compared to other brands like Breitling and Omega. |
