Hi All, Could anyone please recommend a few reputable online sellers for brand new JLC and Breitlings, must be able to post to Australia I’m hoping to purchase a  SOH 46 for Myself and a JLT Lady Reverso for the wife, went into the Western Australian Breitling dealer and was quoted nearly $13,000 for both pieces  I really don’t want to stuff this up, not only for the monetary reason but it’s for my first wedding anniversary too. Well, you could start with the forum sponsors. Make sure that you factor Australian customs duties into the total equation. |

I have nothing against PrestigeTime at all, but just so you are aware, they are grey-market sellers and therefore cannot offer a full Breitling warranty. Only official AD's can do that. For official AD forum sponsors, contact Andrew Michael's Jeweller's or Bankslyon (both UK based), or contact US-based AD representatives/contacts on here - member "jnelson3097" (represents Govberg) or "FEAR" who represents Provident. All four AD's will (I believe) ship internationally and are authorised Breitling dealers. |

You will find that the customs duties payable to the Aust. Govt. will make it more expensive to purchase from abroad - even with the strong AUD. I suggest that you shop around within Australia - there is plenty of competition amongst AD's in Sydney and Melbourne that carry both JLC and Breitling. |

I would still check the overseas AD for sales to Australia though. Keep in mind that the only duty to pay on items over AU$1000.00 in value is 10% GST on the total cost. So for example, if one of these watches is AU$5,000, then add $500.00 for GST and the shipping cost as a total cost against buying locally. |

Thanks Gents, For all the PM's and advice, just waying up the old grey seller vs AD argument still and i'm still waiting for some final pricing, including Australian AD as I still feel it's important for my local AD to compete with OS pricing. One question, whats the likely hood of a Breitling needing warranty work ? 2% chance ? |

No official figures on that kind of thing are ever released, but there are definitely a few people here who have needed warranty work.... but then those figures are skewed by the fact that forums tend to attract people who either a) have a problem with their watch and are looking for advice, or b) have had a problem and want to bitch about it. Personally I've owned well over 10 Breitlings and as far as I recall I've never needed warranty work outside of a regulation. But there are others here who have sent their watch back 2, 3 or 4 times. (And I've needed warranty work on watches by other similarly priced manufacturers - IWC, Tag, Doxa). It's down to how risk averse you are, and whether the saving you make "going grey" will outweigh the possible expense of a non-warrantied repair. |

Probably not much chance of warranty work being needed, but is the factor in what is a fairly simple equation once you have the final prices on both sides. To save many hundreds I would probably look at grey as being a good calculated risk because the worst case scenario is the watch develops a problem and swallows up that savings. Of course if you get by without issue that cash stays in your pocket. But to save only a few hundred, say up to $400, I personally look at that as not being a smart risk and think one should just spend the extra and know you're well covered. |

Monards on Collins street Melbourne, by far had the best price for Breitlings in Australia... When I was getting my Navi I went to Watches of Switz, Hour Glass and so on.. Monards beat them all on price... |

If you are in a market with any competition at all then I really think that grey market is a risk that simply isn't worth it. It's not just the lack of a warranty, you have no idea how old the watch is, whether it has any history (warranty / customer return for example), etc. You lose all peace of mind and while the price may be cheaper somewhere like Australia relative to what an AD will do the differential is rarely worth the uncertainty. I'm also sure that a local AD would happily agree to polish a watch that they sold, regulate it if that's ever necessary, help you out on any future strap purchases that you wanted, etc - and you won't get that from a faceless internet site (that may or may not actually have the watch in stock). |
