Post subject:  In The Process of Purchasing a Chronomat NEED HELP!!!

I'm a newbie on the forum so forgive me for wanting to discuss price in my first post, but I need help stat. I have been considering a Breitling for several weeks and trying to find a reason to make the plunge... Well two things occurred to push me over the edge; my daily watch broke and I got a large unexpected bonus at work so why not...

I went to a local AD in Missouri and managed to negotiate 20% off the list price for a Chronomat that had a list price of about $5,800 bucks. The AD will not ship the watch to avoid taxes, because they state this is an illegal act of tax avoidance. Once you throw the additional 7% for tax I would be paying about 5K for this watch and that seems a bit steep. I considered using the online retailer interwatches.com, but I still have fears purchasing expensive jewelry from an online retailer... I could get the same watch from the online retailer with a 1K savings in cost based on list price and taxes.

I would just like to know if anyone has any negotiation tactics or suggestions to ensure I get the best deal possible. I would hate to purchase this watch just because I can easily afford it only to find out I through away over 1 thousand bucks... This is driving me crazy, because I'm ready to pull the trigger, but I'm a bargain shopper.
*It's kind of ironic to be thrifty about a 5K watch...*

If we can't openly discuss prices on the forum just PM me any helpful info.

If this is your first Breitlng (or first luxury watch for that matter) suck it up and buy it at the AD. A 20% discount off of retail pricing is about average and not every AD will do the old ship out of state to avoid the state sales tax deal. Mine will, but I have to drive 2 1/2 hours (out of state) and wait 2 days to get it in the mail.

Look at it this way, even figuring in the sales tax you are getting 13% off retail and establishing a relationship with that AD that will help you secure a possible better discount later (not to meantion local service). You will not want to stop at one Breitling trust me.

The online gray market has some good sellers but you have to really be carefull that the watch they are selling has the serial number intact and keep in mind that there will be no Breitling 2 year warantee, you will not get the warantee card. (usually).

Yes $1000 is a lot of money but a relationship with the AD is worth something as well. Are you in an area that you can visit other AD's??
