Well I would start by reviewing the models section and seeing what you like - Navitimer style, Chronomat style, Avenger style, quartz or mechanical, etc, etc. Otherwise it's a rather general question.

Do you have a price range? An average sized wrist? Preference for brushed or polished? Auto or quartz? Bracelet, leather, rubber? Big bezel? Chronos? There are a lot of Breitlings and tons of different configurations for each model and sub-model.

Thanks guys I was maybe thinking of a superocean or steelfish? What do you think?

Great idea!

A silver dial steelfish was my first breitling and I love this watch just as much today as I did when I got it 1.5 years ago. Highly recommended and very versatile. It is a future breitling classic.

A ton of pictures in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=31908

I started with a Steelfish, and I am verry happy with it. The size is perfect for me, it is verry strong and the price is reasonable. Good luck with finding one!

cheers,

Marco

For a larger wrist a Steelfish doesn't really wear very big. That was part of the reason I sold mine. Still ok, just a personal taste thing.

For me, a Seawolf is a good start if you can handle the 44. Amazing watch, very popular, good resale, super cool, good diver, can't go wrong.

I've had my superocean heritage chrono LE for 5 entire days and love it. Clearly it's the best first breitling to buy.

I have a blackbird and a chrono avenger and I personally like my blackbird better because of the awesome bracelet. I really like my avenger too so it's all just personal preference. Try them on in a dealer and see which one fits your wrist better.

I think I will go and try them on at a dealer and see which fits best.....If not I think I will go with a blackbird. :)

I'd recommend you try on a Blackbird, Chronomat and Avenger (or Super Avenger if you can fit the 48mm) seeing as that seems to be the style you are after :-) You might as well try on a Navitimer while you are there though, as they are still the classic Breitling.
Sadly you'll find that the Steelfish is no longer available from dealers, and only second hand as it is a discontinued model.

My 10 step process...
1) decide your budget
2) look at website for ideas
3) go to dealer with good selection
4) try on many
5) snap pics of each on the wrist
6) get their best price
7) walk away
8) decide (price compare and watch)
9) permission (if applicable)
10) enjoy new piece

Don't overlook the chronomat! But as others have said, go try some on (take pictures to view later) and when the right Breitling is strapped on, you will know it!
