After seeing some pictures posted earlier of a polished Steelfish I started to have the urge to have mine done. I just spoke with my AD and they said it would cost $160 with a week turn around...

Now I've just got to pull the trigger. I like the polished look, and I feel like it is easier to maintain (using Cape Cod clothes)...

I value the opinion of you all, so let's hear them!

This is a total personal preference thing, but I would argue that the polished is harder to maintain (to factory fresh) than the brushed.

Every little tiny scratch or scuff is noticable on the shiney polished surface. Now you can easily polish them out with the trusty cape cod cloths, but it does require attension all the time (if you want the factory shine / mirror finish).

I was reluctant to get a brushed finish because of the thought that I wouldnt be able to refinish it myself when it was needed. I no longer feel this way. The brushed (matte) finish hides the little marks very well and when its time to look like new a green potscubber and possibly a fiberglass pen ... back to new.

A lot depends on your lifestyle and what are you doing while wearing your watch. I wear my black dialed fish everyday and there are marks on it. I wear my white dialed fish or more fancy, my EVO only on the weekends or evenings if we go out. I am very self concious about the polished models and cant stand the scuffmarks. The everyday fish is my favorite, just because it gets WORN and scuffs dont concern me (and they arent as noticable).

I used to think I wanted to have my Fish polished; but I
changed my mind after I bought my Skyland (which is polished, both
bracelet and head). Don't get me wrong; the Skyland is beautiful
with all that polished metal -- but every tiny scratch, every smudge,
every fingerprint is visible. And if you're like every other watch
owner (completely anal about such things) you'll need to carry
around a buffing cloth with you to deal with every little imperfection
whenever you notice it -- and that can get to be a full time job!

No, leave your beautiful Fish just like he is, a combination of polish
and satin finish.

I almost think the Steelfish is better left brushed. I originally thought it would look good polished, but then after trying them on, the brushed finish looks better on there. Either way, it's still a really nice looking watch brushed or polished, if you do polish it, just be ready to buff out all the little scratches that you would accumulate on the clasp.

Keep it brushed and put the $160 towards a new polished Breitling.

I was the same and considered having my Steelfish polished, but like a lot of the guys here I now actually really like the contrast between my Fish and the my other polished watches. Additionally as my Fish is my knock-around watch I like the way I can refurb it easily with a green scouring pad when it gets scratched.

I've also heard that some (most) polishing jobs are not as good the factory finish, and being something of a perfectionist, I know that would annoy me.

But as with anything, it's all personal choice, and there is no doubting that if it's done well, the polished Fish does look very good.

Just remember... once it's done, it's DONE! You can never go back. Make sure it is what you want, because it is an expensive decision.

For me, I don't mess with the design. That's my 2 cents for what it's worth.

I too would like to get my fish polished(why does that sound perverted? ) but the brushed finish is just so easy to maintain, I dont mind wearing to a rougher environment and it still looks great. I say keep it as is.

I love the size of the fish and wish I had a polished version, just because it sits so well on the wrist and is a perfect everyday watch....hmmm....I better stop, I'm convincing myself to buy another one just to have it polished.

Now thats the right mindset!
