Post subject: | First Breitling Purchase Navitimer 01 or Montbrillant Datora |
I just joined the forum and look forward to reading it daily. I have decided to make my first Breitling acquisition and am torn between 2 watches. The Navitimer 01 and the Montbrillant Datora. What keeps bringing me back to the Datora is the fact that I like the day and month displayed I think this is a really cool feature but I like the in house movement of the Navitimer 01. I have not seen very much posted about the Datora, is this not a very popular watch? Are both watches the same size? (43mm) The only other differences I can see is the half moon date hand and the sub dials at 6 9 and 12 on the Datora. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the Datora is about 2K less expensive as well. Also is the blue sky Navitimer more expensive than the standard black face? Any input on which watch I should get would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your responses. ![]() |

http://www.breitling.com/en/ Here is their web site. Click on my breitling made to measure. You can choose the case, dial, and strap. It will give you MSRP as well. |

Choosing a watch has to be your decision - there is no logical reason for spending this kind of money on a watch, it's an emotional reason so go and try them both on and see which one 'speaks' to you. They are the same size, and wear about the same on the wrist, although dial colour is going to impact the look and feel of the size as well. Welcome to BreitlingSource. |

They are both beautiful watches and I have owned both of them. I currently still have a datora and I really do like the unique look of it. As Roff said, they are the same size so they will feel about the same on the wrist. And as you mentioned, the Navitimer 01 has the in-house movement. If you don't really care about the movement, then your choice will be purely asthetic and whichever one just speaks to you a little more is the one you should go with. Here's a pic of my datora with the havana dial. And to answer your other question, the blue strike does retail for more than the black faced Navi. If my memory serves me correctly, I think I was told that it retails for maybe $600 or so more than the black faced one. ![]() |

Both great choices. Congrats on the new purchase. I had a similar decision between a Navi World and Montbrillant 47. I went with the 47 and have had it under a week and I couldn't be more pleased. I went and tried it on and as they say, it spoke to me. Go with whichever speaks to you. Good luck. |

Something very retro about the Datora, and something you don't see every day. Very unique and not that common, so I would tick the Datora too. Jim |

I had the same decision as you and at the end of the day I went with the datora (black face). Doesn't appear to be a popular watch but I too loved the mix of retro and complication on the dial. |

I hope that Breitling will produce a full calendar version of the B01 - something like that of the Valjoux 7751, the base movement of the Datora. (I expect the same for the Chronomat 41...) So waiting might fruit you the "2 in 1" watch you might really want. No rumours though, just one way of logical thinking ![]() Best, Robert |
