Just thought I'd say hi from a new superocean carer and thought you all might like like to hear a story .... A few weeks ago I threw my beloved Sportster down the road at a busy four way crossing... Usual gravel rash and minor contusions, nothing too bad.. Picked up the bike and wheeled it to the side of the junction and was looking at the damage, bent levers dented gastank etc and saw some bits missing from the bike.. atleast ten minutes later I saw something glinting in the middle of the busy intersection and was hearing the K-dunk k-dunk of cars going over what I thought was the broken gearlever and other bits off the Harley when I realised S**t where's my watch!!. There in the road and I couldn't get to it for the traffic was my Superocean.. Finally I rescued it... Strap in a spiral and broken in two places, spring bars missing, the watch face-up and therefore badly scratched and dinged in the caseback, but working fine, crystal perfect, no marks frontside, bezel fine and rotating, but scatches and score marks on the clasp and generally on the strap.
I've spent a couple of weeks generally restoring the strap, replacing springbars and the folding clasp's rivets on the diver's wet suit extension and repolishing all the links and end pieces( I recommend Purr-fect Polishing kits UK, I use their stuff for the bike restorations and they are ace) and polishing out even the deepest marks on the caseback... It's not mint but damn close and if anyone wants a testimony to the strength of these watches I 'm your man. Totally impressed and don't think the Speedmaster and an older Rolex I have would have survived, partly due to acrylic crystals I suspect....Any one else had a similar experience????

Jonboy,

What an incredible story! I knew Superoceans were tough, but I had no idea
they could take that kind of abuse. (I'm also glad you and your
Harley survived :lol: ) Your story makes me feel a lot better about wearing my Steelfish
in precarious situations -- but I refuse to toss
it into heavy traffic just to see how tough it is. :wink:

Listen, you've got to send your story to the Breitling bigwigs; it's the
kind of ad for their products that money just can't buy. Check with your AD,
see what he thinks. In the mean time, be careful riding your
Sportster, okay? We'd like to keep you posting for at least a little while longer... :)

Wow... been through a "few" bike accidents myself. Glad you're OK.

Any before and after pics of the watch by any chance?

Amazing story! Glad to hear you're ok, and incredible the SO stood the abuse. As said, any pics? I also vote for telling your AD!

Glad to hear you're OK. Hopefully no road rash... I've dealt with that before from bike crashes and it sucks. Those SOs are built tough! I would love to see pics of it restored when you get a chance.

WOW J.B, that's quite a story. I'm one of those who always wonders just how tough a Breitling watch can be, but not at the expense of another SO owner risking potential harm. Either way, glad your alive and kicking, along with the watch. Thanks for sharing.

That is a hell of a story, but it makes me miss riding. I have had 3 sport bikes and all three were stolen, go figure...

Glad you are safe, love my watches, but life is more important.

Jonboy great to hear you are ok, and able to tell us this story. I would also like to start riding motorcycles, not quite sure what engine size I should pick for my first bike....I will definitely remember this story when driving. Be careful man, goes to show how tough these bad boys (Breitlings) really are, welcome aboard to the forum, from one enthusiast to another.

That would totally depend on the style of bike you intend to want to ride. Sport Bike? Cruiser? Chopper? Off road?

Take it from a guy who's been riding, racing (and crashing), and enjoying bikes for years... start small and ride within your capabilities ;)

It may not be fun, but it's difficult to get a watch to fit over a cast ;)
