Post subject: | Emergency bracelet expander for non-diver watch? |
I recently purchased a previously owned Breitling Emergency and was surprised to discover it has a wet suit expander on the bracelet, like my Rolex Submariner. The Emergency is only rated water resistant to 30m so why would Breitling include an expander intended to allow wearing it over a wet suit? My Aerospace is rated for 100m (still not made for diving but OK for swimming) but it doesn't include this feature. Thanks for your help. ![]() |

To wear over a flying suit and gloves? I know my Avantage on Pro2 can be a PITA when wearing my gro-bag and gloves. Would love an extender but evidently it's not possible. |

Yes I would agree. I think one needs to remember that Breitling, unlike Rolex, are predominantly pilots watches, at least the Professional & Navitimer ranges, and to an extent the Crosswind range are. The expansion facility on the Pro 1 bracelet is intended to allow the pilot watch to be worn over the cuff of a flying suit. It was only because the Pro 1 was also fitted to certain watches of the Aeromarine range this allowed those watches to be worn over a wet/dry suit. If the lower water resistance rated watches find themselves in water, then something has gone drastically wrong in the cockpit. ![]() It is sad that Breitling never carried the extension facility over to the Pro II, but in saying that, they started to do many things around that time that the Breitling purists couldn't understand. RE your Aerospace Xchoppers, I take it you have the later Aerospace Advantage on a Pro II as the original Aerospace which in some instances was fitted with a Pro 1 did have the extension facility. |

Well the simple answer is that it came on a Pro I and the Pro I had a diver extender regardless of which watch it was on. |

Thanks everyone for all the information you provided! I never thought to consider maybe the expander was intended to be used when worn over a flight suit but that makes perfectly good sense. Merry Christmas everyone! |
