Started a thread in general watch discussion on Rolex

So here's the Breitling one.

Breitling opens a workshop specializing in making chronographs and precision counters for scientific and industrial purposes in 1884 !

The same year as that other watch and "army" knife maker Vitorinox, Marks & Spencer, the NCR Corporation, BVLGARI the Italian jeweller, the US Naval College, Derby County and Leicester City Football Clubs, were all founded.

Mark Twian published The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander In Chief of the Japanese Navy was born. He was responsible for the battle of Pearl Harbour, after which the US appionted John S. McCain, Sr as Commander, Aircraft, South Pacific who was also born in................ 1884.

well, there are a lot of really strange Breitling facts, like Breitling still claiming that the iconic Navitimer was introduced in 1952, although all evidence available points to a launch date in 1954.

Interesting and related to horology:
October 1884 – International Meridian Conference in Washington, D.C. fixes the Greenwich meridian as the world's prime meridian.
