I was watching Storage Wars tonight and there were some antique drawer pulls that they thought might be made out of Bakelite. Both the guy who bought the locker and the expert antique guy both pronounced the "e" in Bakelite. Sounded like Bake-a-lite. I never knew what Bakelite was until I bought a Breitling, so this was a revelation to me.

I remember being taught about bakelite radios in school as a kid. They were well before my time but it's moments like these that remind me I'm not 21.

I remember a Bakelite childrens building set that my parents had from when they were kids and they always pronounced it as "bake-a-lite", so that's how I've always done it.

How many can remember BakeLite telephones? Those awful heavy black phone handles from the 30s, 40s & 50s. YUk. At least the Breitling Box is a joy to behold.

I have a 1930's bakelite British Smiths 8 day wall clock at home, that's quite a nice item from the bakelite 'era'.

I have always known it as Bake-a-lite.

Also always knew it as bake-a-lite. I have a watch demagnetiser from the 30s made of it!

Bake-a-lite whan it's really Bakelite (but pronounced "Bay ka light".)

Bit like deployment when it's really deployant.
