Hi,

Just saying hello as I just got my first Breitling after some hunting. I went for the new supreocean wit a black dial and love it! I did consider the Steelfish, and think over here (in the UK) is might be slightly better value, but for me the slightly smaller size of the SO suits my need (I intend to wear it all the time - including on my bike). Plus, I'm not sure why but I really really like the new hands and the numbers on the dial (thought it's a shame they are not luminous).

Anyway, pics are attached!

They include a ding within the first day of ownership - gutted! :x It's the tiny dot in the last pic  - do any of you experts out there think Breitling could refinish this out one day or should I allow myself to be properly depressed

Oh, another question - does anyone know the retail prices of the rubber straps in the USA? I have a trip coming up so was going to compare prices with the UK.

Welcome in!

Pity about the ding, how did that happen? It does look rather small but then that won't help

Welcome and congratulations!

Nice SO! I like the new style numbers, when they are on a dark dial like yours. Too bad they aren't luminous, I like that effect on my own 06' SO.

Regarding the ding, that should be very possible to take care of at a service center.

Thanks for the welcome folks. :D

The ding was a consequence of trying to change the memory on my Mac Pro. I managed to drop the case and the edge brushed the watch (I wear it on my right hand).

On reflection given that it's a big edge of aluminum that hit the watch it's a bit of a lucky escape - it's not a big ding and not too deep (the pic probably makes it look worse as it's caught all the light). Once I have another knock I'm sure I'll relax, and I do intend to wear this all the time so I can't imagine it'll be the first.

Nice watch!

Before the most recent price increase, my AD was selling the rubber diver pro straps for $75. I believe they have gone up to over a hundred bucks since.

You're a brave man, Johnny. If I had dropped part of a computer
on one of my Breitlings, I'd probably have to be hospitalized
for hysteria.

About that ding -- it does make its presence known, doesn't it?
But I think with a Cape Cod and a little ambition, you yourself
could make it much less noticeable. Of course, you might want to
leave it just as it is -- kind of a badge of honor -- a reminder that
these watches are meant to be worn, not pampered. Grrrr

Anyway, enjoy that great-looking watch, ding and all. :)

Steve

The basic Diver Pro in any color with a buckle, in any size (width wise) is $110 retail. The one you are looking for will be 22-20mm

The Ocean Racer rubber is $420 on deployment buckle.

The hysteria is reducing slowly

And I do think that these kinds of watches are supposed to be worn - my wife's suggestion was that surely the idea when you spend that much is to wear it as much as possible and whist it might not look as pretty with scratches and dings at least it's been loved.

Her other point was that someone with a Ferrari with a small dent still has a Ferrari!

Anyway, some added impressions about the watch.

GOOD
a). I actually like the 42mm size. Being polished and a Breilting it hardly seems small, but I don't feel the need for anything bigger.
b) I always thought polished was a bit too 'bling' but I really like it now. It seems a bit more luxury, and I love how it picks up the light. Also, I guess it's nice that you can see what you can achieve using a Cape Cod to remove scratches.
c) A friend has a Planet Ocean which is really nice and I know it's a technically brilliant watch (co-axial) but to me the helium crown, lack of crown guard and enamel bezel make it seem a bit less neat and 'professional'. Plus my wife prefers mine which always helps :D
d) I don't miss the lume on the numbers. It seems an unnecessary loss on behalf of Breitling, but it makes the dial look very clean and geometric at night.
e)Bracelet VERY comfortable and adjustable.

BAD
a) Lume seems indifferent to me. Not as good as the Planet Ocean, though we've been a bit short of sunny days and I've spent a fair amount of time inside since I got the watch so maybe the lume hasn't been properly charged. It's not 'bad', just not amazing. I'll post some pics tonight.
b) Lack of a divers extension seems a bit cheap and on the same note I still think Omegas clasp design is better.
c) errrr....
d) The ding!

Jonny,

Your wife is wise beyond her years. I've never thought of a SO
as a Ferrari (Can you really imagine someone driving a Ferrari
with a dent!) but she made a good point. :)

What you said about the lume on the SO dial is interesting. I'm glad
you said you're going to post a picture of it, for those of us who
are concerned about the lume (or lack of it) factor. Mu question
is this: Is there any lume at all (maybe a small dot) next to the 1,2,
4,5, 7,8, 10,11? Or is there nothing but total darkness there instead?

I've got an Omega PO as well, and the lume is one of its great virtues.
I actually think a surgeon could perform brain surgury just from the
the light of the PO alone .

Anyway, can't wait to see the pix.

Steve

There is no lume on the numbers themselves - just on dots above them, with a small triangular dot above the 12.

I'm not sure it's a good thing, though it doesn't bother me as it gives it a very neat look at night (I'll try my best with pics later), but there is no way it compares with a planet ocean.

I didn't like the new SO at first because the hands didn't look like they matched (I had similar problems with the SOH), but that watch is really growing on me.

Congratulations on the watch and the speed with which you managed to add its 'character marks'
