Hello Breitling fanatics, Some of you may know (as the advice and referrals to some ADs has been excellent so far on the forum) that I am buying my first ever Breitling, and indeed my first ever true luxury up-market watch in Jan. I had set my heart on a Super Avenger - A brave move I might hear you say - especially as I had never held one or tried one on at an AD and was making the decision alone based on its stunning looks and outrageous presence. My local AD in Belfast has two branches and I have only seen one SA in recent history which was an all black on bracelet whilst window browsing some time ago. Unfortunately they have not had any since, and as Jan is fast approaching I had started to think perhaps the SA was too big and not the right watch for me - this backed up by the fantastic Omega PO 8500 I had looked at up close and the ultimate fact I wouldnt spend thousands on a watch without trying it first. Yesterday though, my story takes a turn for the better as myself and the other half decided to take a run to Dublin cityfor some christmas shopping. I checked out a big AD right in he city centre who had 3 large Breitling displays and a fantastic collection which really but my own AD in Belfast to shame... low and behold no SA in this shop either. Disappointing, Yes I know. We decided then to take the train out to a little town called Dundrum which has one of irelands largest shopping centres and was only 15 minutes from dublin. Unknown to me - there was a sister branch of the big AD located in dublin city centre and yup.....you've guessed it - they had 2 SAs in the window display - both on bracelet, one all black dial and one blue dial with silver subdials. I drooled over the window display and plucked up the courage to go in and ask to view them. Thats when I noticed they had in their in-shop display another SA with the exact dial combo I am after ( black with silver subdial) - this one was on brown calf strap. I was like a kid in a sweetshop. My gf actually commented afterwards that she thought I was going to turn to the dealer and say " I'll take it" - thank god I have a little more sense than that. The assistant was very helpful = there was no pressure to buy and he himself wore a colt on bracelet. He \pent some time with me and allowed me to try all three watches. I cannot tell you how great it was to finally see and hold one in the flesh. I have to say - the bracelet is much more blingy than I would have imagined and when I tried the watch on the strap it immediately felt at home on my wrist.....then again the bracelet was not sized and I think it's a must have with a SA. I think I would rather have the bracelet when buying new but as the strap was so soft and supple I must have one when I get mine and the brown really married well on this version. . We did talk price veru casually and without any pushing he was able to take 10% off - not enough for me I'm afraid but I'm sure had I been buying this could have been worked with. No photos I am afraid guys as I did not want to appear rude and I was rather busy with these awesome watches. He also brought out a Silver BCE for me to try. So the morale of this rather long winded story is......the SA is certainly the watch for me and it was absolutely stunning to view finally in person - a big bonus viewing the dial combo I am after and a great positive to try out Breitlings fantastic leather strap. I had a blue with silver subs, but if I was going to be a one watch guy it would be the black with silver, so I agree with your choice. I also agree to buy it on the bracelet and then pick up a strap. Over the past few years I've learned I'm pretty safe buying Breitling sight unseen because none are too big, and I have liked each that I own or have owned, and all were extremely comfortable. (Blackbird, SA, Steelfish, Seawolf, 6.75) All bought over the internet, and you might find this funny, I have never actually seen a Breitling in a shop in person. ![]() |

We only have one AD here and their breitling display is nothing sort of poor. I suppose when you buy one Breitling you get used to their general feel and quality The blue dial was nice but next to the black it as just blown away - how comfortable did you find the pro2 when it was sized correctly ? The price of a pro2 to buy on its own is crazy compared to buying it attatched to the watch |

Even 44mm would work fro you so you have a pretty good selection to choose from... but if you got the SA in your head it will be hard to abandon it. |
