Post subject:  Navitimer World - Rattling Bezel

I've got a one year old Navitimer World that I bought new from my AD. Within the last few weeks when I lightly tap on the outer bezel (and I mean lightly), it sounds as though the crystal is loose. The crystal appears to be seated properly and there is no external damage or defect.

I sent the watch into Breitling via the AD but it came back in the same condition - still rattles when lightly tapped. The AD said they had received a call from Breitling during their inspection and that they found nothing wrong with the watch and returned it.

The bezel did not rattle when I bought it, never dropped or otherwise damaged and not worn all that often. So, was wondering if anyone had run into this before, what might be the cause, why now and should I expect Breitling to resolve this issue ? For the money it ought to be perfect - better than my Citizen watch which is worn alot more and flawless. Anyone come across this before and what is the best way to resolve it? Thanks.

Common and apparently normal:

My World sort of does the same... totally normal.

When I owned a World, I noticed the same thing. I suppose it's common.

I never had this problem with my regular navitimer. Is this only inherent in the World?

I don't notice it with my World. The bezel takes a bit of effort to turn; maybe that's part of it.

Hi there,

Yep mine is the same, I never noticed it initially, but i kinda tapped the crystal one day and I was sure something was wrong.

The bezel is really tight. But I was sure the crystal was about to fall out! Horrified!!!!!!!

I popped into my AD where they had a new one in the display, as well as a second hand one up for sale too.

So. I grabbed them both and sure enough they both make the same sound. I think I've tried at least 10 around the country and they all have the same noise.

Even the Breitling Rep for our area said the same.

I'd never submerge mine in any water anyhow, so it's not a worry for me, but it is a quirk on the World.

My OLD Navitimer does not make any sound at all.

I think you'll have to live with it!

When I tap my crystal firmly, I can hear something, but I can also feel it. It feels and sounds like something internal, like spring steel moving.

Tapping the crystal on my World sounds sort of "hollow" too. All quite normal and I've never had a problem with the watch.

I had the exact same thing when I purchased my World a few months back, I was horrified that a £4800 watch sounded like a £10 market stall watch, My AD agreed and got two more in and both were the same. But on one of them the strap was on the wrong way around!!! I had fears of poor quality control plus mine was keeping horrible time too, gaining over three minutes in less than a month. So reluntantly as I really liked the look of this watch, I returned it for my money back and brought a Rolex instead. :(

Based on your last topic "keeping horrible time" was within COSC specs. :huh

No it was not within COSC specs. Mine was fast by 3 minutes 15 secs in 27 day period, which is 7.2 secs a day. COSC spec is -4 and +6 a day

I'm familiar with COSC specs, I was going by your post here - viewtopic.php?f=1&t=43234. Slightly off topic for this thread, but +7.2 on a new watch is really not a cause for concern as it's still settling.

My World is the same as Wrangler. Very tight and no hint of rattling.

Roff.... I am not put off by the problems I saw in my World. I love the Breitling brand, Ive just decided to go for the in house 01 movement in the Red Gold Navitimer instead. When I saw it and tried it on it was love at first site. I have it on deposit at the moment but may take a months or two to acheive the balance but this will be my new watch for 2013.
