Hi Folks

I am new to the forum.

I love the Breitling brand and most of the range appeals to me :)

I have never had the privledge of owning a Breitling but I am saving hard.

I love the black dialled SOSF, and the black numerals Super Avenger. Two epic watches

With a budget of £1500 tops, is it going to be impossible for me to find a used Super Avenger ?

It goes without saying I would want it to be of great condition.

I know the same allowance will get me a great SOSF but feel the massive SA is more of a statement and shouts about the brand moreso

Any help appreciated

Lenny

That budget isn't going to get you an SA that you would want.

There are a lot sold so check out the completed listings on eBay and the listings in the forums and you'll get an idea of the current market.

That's approx $2500

Am I way off in relation to price ?

You possibly might find a used one for $3,000-$3,500 in nice condition.

Welcome! That's probably not going to get one in any condition you want...well, one that isn't 'hot' at least. I've seen ones for $3k USD but they are used and have some 'love' marks. How big is your wrist? The SOSF is 44mm and the SA is 48mm. The Seawolf is 45mm and IIRC the Avenger is 45mm also. If your wrist isn't of good size, the SA looks rather out of place IMO but that's just my personal opinion...but it is a big, heavy watch. If you don't have a scrawny wrist like me, it makes a great statement...on me it's like wearing a clock... The Steelfish in itself is a really nice watch and you can likely find one like new, possibly just overhauled, in your price range and have some money left over for a custom strap or two. 44mm is still pretty sizable for a watch so on a small to medium size wrist, it still makes quite a statement. The Avenger/Avenger Skyland (same thing) seems to be closer in price to the SA than the SF but still not quite as much as the SA. It's also worth pointing out that the SF is in brushed finish with high polished edges where as the SA is in all high polished.

Thanks for your advice and input

My wrist is just over 7inches. Probably verging on just about carrying the SA.

I do like the seawolf but prefer the steelfish in comparison, even though it has a slightly smaller dial.

The skyland I appreciate but it wouldnt not be a top choice - I prefer the more aggressive stance of the SA in comparison.

I suppose the advice is clear on the £1500 budget. It's a stretch it seems.

I consider 7 inches to be medium-large and plenty for a SA...my wrist is a bit over 6"...the SA's watch head is actually too long for my wrist and the lugs 'hang' over the side...the Chronomat 43.7mm or SF 44mm barely fits me! It can be quite frustrating at times!

I can understand liking the more aggressive stance of the SA over the A...I also like how the SA has the gold medallion where as the Avenger is just a print. IMO the Breitling logo tops off the watch.

And I like the black and white diamond contrast! I've never seen anything like that before...and the combination of white diamand and black diamond really balances the watch beautifully. Was that just a random idea you had one day and had someone do custom work for you? I bet that gets a lot of compliments.

Almost certainly yes. Best in the last couple of weeks was £1800. If you're VERY patient, you may eventually find a heavily used, leather strap, no box/paperwork etc for £1500 but is that what you want to buy? IMHO, keep saving and get your budget up to £2000 and you will then be able to grab a nice one.

Be aware that you'll have to pay approx 25% import duty/VAT if you import from outside the EU so beware overseas bargains!

Thanks nickzac for the compliment, I did just think it up myself was looking for something different to do with it, my father is a diamond setter but does not work with stainless steel it's a tough metal, so I found a setter in newyork through one of my salesmen. He does great work. I'm getting ready to do my blue face super avenger band next all white diamonds. The blue diamonds don't match the dial good enough to do on the band. And yes I can see what you mean about the super avenger being to big for your wrist, it's borderline for mine.

Dial wise its between two

1) black dial numerials with white subdial

) white baton dial

anyone ce to post some pics in these two styles for me ?

I'd partticulary be interested in looking at one with a calf strap leather strap in black :)

I could see how the blue diamonds wouldn't quite fit...with the SA's blue you'd need almost a blend between a blue diamond and a sapphire with a little more gray in the mix. I imagine setting that many diamonds in the Pro 2 must be really involved work!...especially given Breitling uses pretty hard steel...

IMO the numbers give it a more commanding presence which IIRC is something you noted. If you find one with a leather band (or no band/bracelet at all) you can likely get it for less than one with the Pro 2...also, you can get good aftermarket straps for a lot less than the Breitling models (which are top notch). I've gotten good leather straps from Hirsch for $30, good custom calf straps for $65-100, excellent custom python straps for $120-$150 (killer look and even more so on a white SA), and custom shark for about $175...so that's possible savings for you there and then down the line buy a Pro 2 off the forums (it's a great bracelet and a must have!).

One thing you could do is buy a SOSF, wear it for a few months, and than trade it partially towards a SA (guys are constantly trading models). If you get a SOSF for a good price, you really won't lose much and in some cases you may wind up in the black. In my case, I bought a SF, wore it for a few months, and traded it towards a Blackbird...I didn't lose anything on it.

Your right - My timing was very unfortunate recently as a Mint black SOSF appeared with original invoice and a breitling guarantee on a local classified ads website.the most unlikely place to find such a calibre of item.

I liaised with the seller immediately as the price was very competitive....the advert had been up for 6 days by the time I stumbled across it - I intended on viewing locally the next day but he emailed me to say it ad gone.

If there ever was one that got away.....
