Hello,

I have a Breitling for Bentley GT which I'm very happy with. I had it for 2 years, and from using it every day it has alot of small scratches if you look up close. Is there any way I can polish it off, so it looks rather new? I heard about a product called 'Cape Cod Cloth' which should be effective?

Cape Cod or Sunshine cloths will both work - there are a lot of threads on here discussing it which can help you with technique. Just be sure to tape off the crystal so as not to remove the AR coating.

Thanks alot for your fast response. I hate to ask dumb questions, but I've just tried to look through the forums, and quite honestly it seems very confusing to me. Could you point me in the direction of a good post, which demonstrate how it should be done?

If you have deeper scratches or pitting oxidation, consider using a paste like Metal Glo first and then finishing with a Cape Cod and finally a buffing cloth (be sure to use one that doesn't leave micro scratches) to remove residue. This will leave it looking like new. The Metal Glo is slightly more abrasive than the Cape Cod and can remove things the Cape Cod cannot, and while it is pretty good about not microscratching, the Cape Cod is really the king when it comes to the final finish as it is very mild and very good about not scratching. When using it (either, but especially Metal Glo), tape off the AR crystal unless you want to remove the AR coating (in which it does very nicely which can be useful if your AR coating is all marked up). Also note that as you use the Cape Cod cloth, it will change from the pink color to a grayish one. That is actually steel (and dirt)...these particles can scratch the polished surface so always finish with 'fresh' parts of the cloth that don't have these embedded particles. If you have any brushed parts, note that the technique is very different and using what everyone has discussed will then turn brushed metal into quasi-polished metal.

Edit: I've also found Veraet to prolong the finish of brushed and polished metals. A member on here turned me onto it and I am very happy with it, as well as their polishing and drying clothes and their brushes, which are all truly non-scratch (hard to find ones that actually do not leave light scratching).

Well if you want to add scratches yes.

Toothpaste is way too abrasive.
