Hi folks,

I'll be heading overseas shortly, looking for a bargain.

Can anyone tell me the retail prices for a Chronomat (SS, bracelet) in the US and in Japan? Also what discount I could expect, given that I don't have an AD relationship over there. Lastly, any tax rebate I could claim as a visitor would be the icing.

Thanks for any advice!

The Japanese fitting dite has list prices - www.breitling.co.jp/fitting

Mario (In2Deep) can give you US list as he has the post increase ones. He can also help you out with discounts through a group buy that he has going on right now - likely the best that you can get in the US without an AD relationship. Aleister spends some time in Japan and can help you with discoutns there.

In terms of tax - check the US regulations for specifics, but general rule is that you won't have to pay sales tax in the country you buy in, but will be liable for import duty and taxes in the US.

I think that US is cheaper over the Japan.

The Chronomat on steel is $5840 US MSRP. In Japan it is listed at 640,500 Yen which with todays conversion rate is $5815.27

:D

You might want to consider the group buy ;)

Probably true. And even if not joining the group buy it's probably less expensive in the US - after discounts.

From what I hear all the time you get at least 15 % off in the US - leading to a final price of $4964.

In Japan you won't get a discount. Their philosophy - if you buy a luxury item, you can afford it. As a visitor you will however get 5 % off (as no VAT for tax free purchases) leading to a final price of $5524.51.

Awesome advice - exactly what I needed. Thank you all.

Unfortunately, looks like there aren't any arbitrages available - I've been offered NZ$6,000 at an AD, which is US$4,212 at current rates. Maybe that has increased lately though.

Cheers
