Having just bought one of these I'm curious to know how big the run was. Don Indiano says...

"Those were apparently produced in less than 3,000 pieces, from 1993(?) to 1997(?)."

Mine is #2996, so I'm keen to know if anyone knows for certain if the figure was 3000. If so, mine's almost the end of an era!

Yours is the highest that I have heard of, but it's not a true LE with a fixed production number (hence why they don't say xx / xx on them). Breitling never said how many they produced, but around 3,000 is a reasonable approximation.

Yeah, mine has the Navitimer bracelet which didn't come in until 1997. So it's obviously pretty close to the end of the run. I'd be interested to find the highest number out there.

Following up on this... I wanted to check if anyone has any firmer data on this?

I'm eyeing off one at the moment which seems legit... and is numbered 3753! (much higher than I'd previously though was ever made)
Assuming this is authentic, which I'm confident it is, means there are quite a few more out there than we previously suspected.

Comparing it to Novocastrian's, it looks identical and so I suspect there was probably more like 4000 made.

It's legitimate, but don't assume that there are a round number - as I said previously it's not a fixed number LE.

I find it hard to believe that there are 3,753 or more made because having seen a lot over the years I have never seen anything over 3,000 until this one and that seems unlikely if 20+% of them had numbers geater than 3,000 (which this suggests). Mote likely that this one is out of sequence, but I have no idea why - replacement case maybe????

True, I was merely choosing a round number as the previous top estimate was 3000. It could very well be that 3754 were made instead of a nice round number, or as you said only ~3000 and this is an odd one out.

I'm also suprised to see such a high number on it, given that previously I'd always heard ~3000 as being the top (and highest I've seen is Novocastrian's 2996).

The seller for this one isn't the original owner, but hasn't had anything replaced on it since he bought it a few years ago. Doesn't rule out a replacement case being fitted by the first owner though. Would still seem odd (but not unbelievable) to have such a large gap in sequence numbers.

edit: the .1 added to the model number is in keeping with it being a later model (post ~2500)

After a bit of a search, I picked up a Serie Speciale Cosmonaute on the weekend.

Thanks again to Greg for spotting this one for me, Roff for his advice and PJ for the swag and chronologs :-)

Fantastic! Congrats Dr J. We'll have to get numbers 19 and 2996 together for a photo!

Caught up with Novacastrian yesterday.

Here's some pics of the beginning and end of the A12023 era. (#19 appearing in the blue croc and then the navi bracelet he lent me, and #2996 in the black leather)
