Hi guys.

Sorry for asking what might seem like a relatively simple question, but I am still new to this, so thank you for taking the time to read it. I was wondering if there are any major events that signal the launch of a new product line for Breitling, or other watches for that matter?

I've searched Google, but I couldn't find anything. I know Apple, for example, have their developer conferences where they announce new products. Do Breitling have anything similar. Just aware we're approaching 2013 faster than I'd care to be aware of, and would this time of year be a good time to buy a watch, when there could be an announcement of a new, better product line around the corner?

Many thanks.

Most Breitling announcements happen leading up to or at the Basel watch fair in the spring.

Fantastic. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you. Out of interest, when do the rumours usually begin to swell?

There's not usually much leaked, just preliminary announcements starting in January / February.

Rumours (and more to the point, hopes!) that over the last few years at least are immediately quashed as soon as Baselworld happens!

Thanks guys. I thought as much. Not sure I can wait much longer, but looking forward to seeing what is announced.

Good day to you both.

The thing with wrist watches is, unlike iPhones, the product cycles are long, the changes mostly cosmetic and the technical revolutions rare. As far as Breitling are concerned, they have just announced their move to inhouse calibers a few years ago... That was the big news... Now the next few years is going to be implementing work and new, sometimes not so well received, combinations of fonts, fonts and more fonts on as little dial space as possible.

Most of the news are broken in Basel, but Breitling also has punctual events... Like a few weeks ago when Travolta explained to the world how his watch had mysteriously turned blue after he had the gaskets retightened...

Thanks Nav01L

I'm particularly interested in one of three watches, but I didn't want to get one if it were likely they would be updated. Navitimer 01, World and the Monbrillant Datora.

Navi 01 is unlikely to change much - it's already in house and reently got white and blue versions. The hope for some time is that Breitling will use one of the GMT variants of its in house movement in the Navitimer World, and we have to assume that will happen at some point. Who knows with the Datora - Breitling don't appear to - retiring it without any announcement and then reintroducing a slightly different version without any announcement. I suspect that nothing will change with that next year.

Yep, all been said by the prof, there, can't add anything to that.

If not that I can wholeheartedly recommend you get a Navi 01 as soon as possible. I mean why wait?

Seriously, the Datora is nice but, although I'm not a movement snob, I do not like its movement... Date and month display without at least a leap year calendar looks a lot like posing to me.

As for the present day Navi World, I'm falling in and out with it... I really want to like it but I somehow can't. The standard Navi has a lot going on beyond the hour marker's circumference, but the proportion between the inner "watch" dial and the outer "instrument" dial is about as perfect as it can be... Result: I love it. Add a 24h ring to that and the "watch" part sudenly looks all shrunken in the middle of all the stuff that's around... Result: It's just kind of wrong and not likely to improve in a future release.

I know what you mean. And the decision has been tearing me for a while. I have asked my local AD to order in the o1 and the World, I'm just waiting for a call. I want to try them both on to get a feel for the 46mm against the 43mm as I have 6.5 wrists. The trouble is I want an all black face, and this doesn't come on the 01 which is why the Datora is in the picture because I have a feeling the 46mm will look too big and the 43mm will be perfect. However, once I see it in the flesh I could change my mind.

If the 01 already has the in-house I will ge that, if the World could be getting it and it's only a matter of months, I'll wait.

If you can live with a blue dial, they're coming out with a limited edition 01 that has blue subdials on blue... It's called the blue skies, there's a thread about it somewhere here.

Aside from that, the creme subdials on black are just "the classic Navi face". I think it has a nice vintagy feel to it and it helps in tidying up the rather busy dial a bit.

But that certainly is a matter of personal taste.

Except of course that the original Navi was black on black.

All three are great options that you really can't go wrong with. Once you get to see them all on your wrist, hopefully one will really speak to you and you will know it's the one.

Well, it really is incredible what marketing will do... You're right of course...
