Hey folks, I purchased a chrono SuperOcean yesterday to replace an old Seamaster (w/o chronograph). My question is how important is it to keep the chrono start/stop/clear buttons screwed in? I find myself tempted to use the chrono functionality but the inconvenience of screwing/unscrewing the buttons outweighs the value.. I'm *assuming* it's not necessary as the manual makes no reference to this -- that and one primary use of chrono being diving I would only expect this has little/no effect on water resistance.. Most Chronograph watches should not be operated underwater. I would suspect that it is still waterproof without screw locking the pushers but probably not to the rated level. The only Chronograph that I know of that can be operated at it's rated depth is the Chrono Avenger M1 since it uses Magnets to operate the chronograph mechanism. However if ur not swimming i dont see any reason why you can't leave them unscrewed. |

Just as an aside, I believe the Tag Heuer Aquagraph also has push-pieces that can be operated underwater. The push-pieces have a flexible rubber outer covering that is screwed down into the case. It's rated to 500m, and while it's not the world's most attractive watch, it could've been another possible alternative if you need functional underwater push-pieces. (Personally I'd forget about the Tag and rest assured you've made the right choice with the Breitling!  )

I agree... I guess if I were diving in "the land before dive computers" it would be more practical of a feature.. But if I leave these open the rest of the time would anyone happen to know for certain I still get some, albeit lessoned level of resistance (eg. pool, sink, etc okay).. |

I don't know personally.. but if you wanted to time urself you could just push it then lock it down and get wet! That's a good question though, but i never swim with my Chronomat Evo (which has the same locking system for the pushers). |
