Post subject:  Montbrillant Olympus
I've heard that Montbrillant Olympus silver dial is on heavy backorder with ADs in North America. Anyone heard the same? When this happens, what's the longest wait from Breitling supply that you've heard it take to get to N.A.?

This would be the first time I've heard of the backorder on the Oylmpus. At one point I was told there was a 4 month wait on the Emergency Mission, also I know that it can take a while to get a Super Avenger as well.

It would surprise me - I've seen quite a few Olympuses (Olympii?) in AD's lately. Don't specifically recall the silver dial other than a gold one, but it's not the kind of model that I would have expected to be on back order.

Why are you surprised? Is it not a popular model or is it because of the colour? Seems that there is no problem getting black dial in U.S., but not the silver dial. One salesperson said they have to tell me it could take months, but another mentioned that's a stretch, more realistically 8 weeks to be conservative. However, they also said it's rare it takes that long. It's been 2 weeks since I ordered it. It takes a luxury foreign car to be built and shipped from overseas to take that long, how can it take so long for a bloody watch?!

There seems to be many favourites such as Colt, Super Avenger, Blackbird, Emergency, etc....but rarely do people on this board seem to care about the Montbrillant Olympus. Is it because it is too elegant and not sporty enough? Is it effeminite? What's the deal? :o

To answer both posts....

It's not one of the popular models at the moment, but you could make the same argument about much of the Navitimer range because of the lack of water resistance which make some people nervous about using them as a regular wearer.

The exceptions in the range at the moment would be the Legende, the World and to some extent the Chronomatci - largely because of size - they are aligned with the current trend for large watches.

I don't think it is seen as effeminate - it's a fairly dressy look, and that may put some off, but it will appeal to others. Some people prefer the older style Navitimer Olympus to the Montbrillant version - that's just a matter of taste.

I'm surprised for all of the above reasons, but I also think that 8 weeks is very reasonable - this is not a watch produced in an hour or two - heck it takes a week just to get the COSC certification.

I think the Olympus is a great looking watch, I'm not likely to buy one as I am in the process of buying another Breitling that uses the same movement, but until that became a possibility the Olympus was on my list.

I like the olympus, although its a bit small for my taste. I really dislike the integrated bracelet on the legende though. The olympus has an amazing movement, and if you like the size and want a navi, I think its the way to go.

In addition to what Roff said, the Olympus is also quite expensive when compared to the likes of the Colt and SA, etc, so in pure size terms you don't seem to get a lot of bang for your buck. However, internally you get a LOT of bang for your buck with the Olympus!

I see the Olympus as third or forth watch as it's not really a daily wearer due to it's more delicate construction than something like a Superocean. Few people would choose a Navi as their one and only all-purpose watch. And yes it's small(ish) but it's certainly not effeminate!

The Olympus is certainly not a "bang for buck" watch, I'd rather say it's a "fine art for buck" watch. And as Driver said, it's therefore not the first watch many would chose.

I am glad to hear all your comments and they reinforce everything I love about the watch. To me it's a "heirloom" type watch as its movement is worth the price of admission and will likely be respected for decades to come. I actually like the fact that it is smaller than other popular models because I am not looking for any "bling". I was looking for a complex movement in a small case anyway. I was actually worried that the case was too large at one point. Thanks for your comments.
