Post subject:  Help please with a D 13055 Windrider Crosswind
Hi Guys,

I have just bought a Breitling Windrider Crosswind D 13055 and would appreciate any help regarding information about this model, such as years of manufacture, movement type, different options, etc, etc. Mine is Black face, Gold bezel, Steel winder and buttons, Roman Markers, Leather strap/band. Will post image shortly.

When I bought it , it was gaining 4 minutes per hour a little excessive I thought !! So off it has gone to Breitling for a full refurb , sadly wont see it for 10 weeks now.

This is my second Breitling the other one is a Top Time which I have had from new!!! :?

Just had quote back from Breitling and they have discovered the watch has suffered from water ingress not serious enough to damage the movement but has had a negative effect on on the Dial (damaged luminosity and marked Roman markers) also the Crystal has been condemned by virtue of the water damage which apparently cannot be corrected (reflective coating ?).
I am having very sensible and helpful dialogue with Breitling service department about the overall work but obviously they are keen to return the watch to me in first class condition. I want to give them the go ahead to get the watch repaired but am struggling with deciding how much work to have done because of these items the cost of the overhaul has risen quite dramatically.

My question is, is the Windrider Crosswind D13055 worth spending a lot of money on ? From my research it appears to be a fairly limited production of this configuration.

One other question is the movement in this watch C.O.S.C ?

The full designation of the watch is D1305512/B241

Any input would be appreciated.

The watch is not COSC certified.

Whether it is worth it is a matter of personal choice - from a purely financial standpoint, probably not - the watch is approaching 15 years old and resale values aren't great. On the other hand, you will end up with a watch that looks brand new and will not need another service for 5 - 7 years. It is also a watch that will be keeping time for your great grandchildren if it's properly maintaned.

The Crosswind is a classic Breitling from a high water mark in the history of the brand's design. Personally, I think it would be worth the work just to have such a great watch in "good as new" condition. That's based purely on my appreciation of the model, though, and not on the financial end of it.

Also, before you OK the work, you might want to make sure exactly what changes, if any, will result from the service. For instance, the hands and the dial will be replaced. Will the replacements be identical? Knowing in advance will prevent any unpleasant surprises when you get it back.

The "high water mark" you refer to seems to have got into my watch!! Hence it being at Breitling now.

I agree with you that the watch deserves to be brought back as "good as new" but my head is saying the cost is too high.

I have checked with Breitling and they assure me that they will use identical parts on a like for like replacement.

So now does the head or heart rule? Still not sure, only time will tell, but really appreciate the input.

If the head rules then use your cell phone to tell the time.

If the heart rules restore it the state that it deserves and add it to your will.
