Superocean running fast?

Post subject:  Superocean running fast?
In 2 days my SO is about 18 seconds fast, or +9 seconds per day. Is that acceptable? I wear it from about 8:15-5:15.

That's outside of COSC specs (assuming that it is a COSC SuperOcean).

That may be for a number of different reasons, and I wouldn't be concerned until there is a longer time period to confirm the rate. Things like changes in temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, etc can all affect the rate of the watch as can the amount of reserve in the mainspring, the position of the watch, and a million other things. If the watch is new or just serviced it will also take a while to settle.

If it is consistently out of the COSC specs of -4 / +6 then it may need a regulation or if it is 5 - 7 years since hte last service then it is time for a service.

That's exactly what I needed to know!

I purchased the watch about a month ago, brand new. I'm going to keep tracking it and hopefully it will settle inside of the specs.

Sadly, auto/mechs are @ the mercy of infinite forces that
are the very nature of their variable rates. Since fallabilities
exist, perhaps they need to establish a COSC obedience
school where radically behaving watches are gently nudged
into compliance. Failing that, then standards & tests done by
JLC, Patek Philippe, & the Geneva Seal itself are enforced. This
too is no panacea, so if you want precision via non advanced
technology, you literally tempt the fates with caliber roulette.

The next time I have $3,000 to spend I'll go straight to the PP botique! LOL

I understand what you're saying though, but I still would expect Breitling would not be too happy it's running outside of COSC specs.

It's been 10 days and as of right now it's 83 seconds faster, so it seems to be getting better.

Agreed that your watch should be within COSC specs, and Breitling QC should also pick up watches that aren't before they are shipped, but it's not the watches themselves that are COSC tested : it's just the movement that is tested and without the dial or hands attached. Therefore, while a movement may be running to COSC specs, it still needs to have the dial and hands fitted, and then be man-handled into the case. At any point there is the chance that something might happen to knock it slightly out of COSC tolerance.

As I say Breitling QC should pick this up, but the good news is it's an easy warranty "fix" via a simple regulation, assuming it doesn't settle down further over the next few weeks.

I would give it another 10 days and if it is not improved I would take it back to Breitling to get it regulated, else that piece of COSC paper you have been furnished with is nothing else than that - a piece of paper rather than a certificate which is what you paid for.

The watch is about 6 weeks old so it's still settling, and showing evidence of getting better.

Do you lay the watch flat at night or on its side? If flat then lay it on its side with the crown up - it will run a bit slower.

Even non-COSC watches should run accurately, not within chronometer
parameters, but enough so you're not running fast, slow, nor having to
readjust the time quite often. Anything can botch up auto/mechs, including
humidity, sunstorms, radiation, magnetic/microwave fields, & even the world's
stock markets. :guns:

When the NASDAQ dropped on Tuesday my PO lost 12 seconds. Shit was crazy.
