Post subject:  List of Closing Stores (AD's)

I was thinking it would be a good idea to have a running list of currently closing AD's; especially since they are a great place to get a deal (about 40% to 50% off).

What does everyone think? If the mods think its not a bad idea, perhaps this could be a sticky? Should this be in the Buy / Sell / Trade section?

I'll go first, I picked this up from a post by Malcster (so thanks Malcster)

If you could provide a little more detail, it would be helpful. I did not find Ernest Jones in Glasgow, UK on the Breitling. I don't know what to make of the second line either :?:

I'll consolidate to the first post as people post so its easy to find.

Come folks chime in here, is this a useful idea or what? Lets hear some opinions.

This is a good notion. I'd also like to see a current list of AD's running sales @ all
times of the year. This may not be viable, but this strong community may prevail.

That works too. How can we keep it on the top so people dont have to read the whole thread? For now I'll consolidate.

Theres probably going to be very intermittent posts on this thread as new information comes up.

Roffensian, Driver8 and sharkman what are you thoughts on making this a sticky? Any benefit?

Not really. As evidenced in the first couple of days of this thread the information is out of date as soon as it's posted, it's such a regional thing anyway and it's guaranteed to cause angst at Breitling because it promotes ADs who are breaching their contract with Breitling through excessive discounting. I suspect that the site owner has had enough lawyers' letters from Breitling and doesn't want any more.

Post subject:  Re: List of Closing Stores (AD's)

There is one more problem:

1. There are three reasons for closing an AD most of the time: Giving to high discounts (more than tollerated by the agent), not enough sellout (which is leading to decreased sellin and aging stock) and the unwillingness or financial restriction not to have the complete line on stock, which is about 60 watches per store in the case of Breitling. The third and second of those reasons leads directly to point 2. and worsens the situation for the AD.
2. Usually AD's are not closed down from one day to the other. They usually have half a year notice, and they can still order watches for the time remaining, although, those orders are not huge quantities for stock, but more or less single watches for customer orders. No sane AD will tell his customers, that he is going to loose the brand in that time. When that periode has passed, sometimes agents will buy back important watches, and when the former AD really starts his sale, he will have only old, hard to sell watches to discount, so it does not really make an important impact on the market.
