Hi guys. I'm new to this site so please bare with me. I recently purchased a Chronomat Blackbird limited edition model with rubber strap from a store that was closing down which of course was an AD for Breitling. The edition number of the watch is 30 of 2000! For this reason alone I figured I should scoop it up. However I'm feeling guilty with myself due to the cost of this beautiful beast. But I'm kinda hoping that it will at least retain it's value in years to come if not increase in value. Any comments regarding this? BTW, I love the brushed satin steel case and the red face accents especially bordering the double date window. Cheers! |

Its very unlikely to retain its value. A limited edition of 2000 is not really all that limited. Very few watches out there make for good investments. |

It'll lose just as much as any other Breitling in % terms - them's the breaks unfortunately. |

Thanks for the reality gents. I figured as much, but then again who does buy a watch solely as an investment. Unless maybe if it's a gold Rolex. I did figure that at 30% off retail it was a decent buy. I'm not sure what the usual discount on a Breitling is though. |

You should NEVER buy a watch based on its potential for value retention. Do that with stocks. Enjoy what you have and stop thinking about what you can get for it in the future. Calm down, stop feeling guilty and just enjoy it. Btw love the blackbird. Besides the navi it's the best ling IMHO. |

The other consideration with the Blackbird is the fact that a great many fans of this brand prefer the regular brushed version of this iconic watch over and above any of the special editions..... |

Never purchase ANYTHING with the hope/expectation that you may liquidate @ a profit, or merely break even. Buy the item(s) because you want, &/or need them for professional reasons. Plus, never be swayed by public opinion, since it is not contributing to paying for whatever you're getting. If someone chips in, that gives them sway power, but you still have final approval. Sort of like ne- gotiating crappy Hollywod movie deals. |

Thanks Ridly for the advice and the comments. I also feel the 2012 Blackbird is a gorgeous watch. It has pretty much all the features one would desire. Love the double date window and the brushed steel, and how the black face coordinates with the black diver band. BTW, I've read posts from other that state they don't like the red accenting around the date. Huh? Certainly NOT a deal breaker for me. I feel that the red accents are tastefully applied and that it looks sharp! |

Thanks all for the great comments. I'm really enjoying the blackbird. Especially hand winding it daily (oh joy) when I'm not planning to wear it! BTW, how are your lings holding up? Are they still in great cosmetic condition over they months/years that you've owned them? Do you really, really try to treat them with "kid gloves" or do you not care that much? And if you don't care that much, what are ya, rich or somethin'!! Cheers! |
