Hello all,

This is my first post here, and I wanted to say thank you to all those knowledgeable people here who help new people like me get all the info they would ever need on these great watches!

I am currently in the market for a Montbrillant Datora with the black dial B571, and I am getting conflicting info from various AD's and grey market dealers. I am being told that this particular dial is no longer in production, even though it is still on the website and catalogue. I got told that the only black dial that Breitling is still producing is the BB58 dial. Now, the dealer who advertises on this forum told me they had 3 in stock, and they were not aware that Breitling had discontinued it, but other dealers (both AD and greys) thought that the Datora was indeed discontinued. One particular dealer told me that he thinks they could be introducing a new movement in the Datoras which is why Breitling is not supplying these anymore (he said he will try to dig further into this though, as all he has is a hunch and no concrete info)

Does anyone here know for sure what the situation is with this particular watch? I really like the B571 dial, and wouldn't want to find myself in a position that I can't purchase it. However, if Breitling does come up with new designs, they could be quite interesting too, hence I'm a bit stuck.

Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this.

Thanks!

Datora is discontinued, although Breitling continue to advertise them until AD stocks are exhausted.

Any discussion about a new version is pure speculation and Breitling don't have an in house movement capable of supporting those features. They may modify their base chronograph movement to support it, but I wouldn't be holding my breath as it wasn't the best selling watch in the range.

Great watch the Datora. I could see them putting their in house movement in ir with an adjustment for the triple date, as was the ETA 7750 to ETA 7751

Thanks for the replies so far guys

Would there be any pitfalls in buying the Datora now knowing it would be discontinued? I am assuming that things like service etc over the next 10-15 years or more would be a non-issue. Also, do ADs have a habit of discounting models that have been discontinued?

Thanks

It's a mechanical watch, it can be serviced for hundreds of years. You can always get a discount on Breitling of 20+% in most markets, if ADs still have Datoras ins stock then they will likely be prepared to discount more in order to shift them.

Ok great, the AD that I had called previously (that is listed on the forum) gave me 20% off (though this was before I posted my questions here on the forum, the same ones that told me that they hadn't heard that the Datora was being discontinued). I'll give them a ring tomorrow again to see if they can do a little better, and will call the other AD listed here too

Will let everyone know how I get on

Thanks!

I just got off the phone with one of the ADs that are advertised here, and he actually called up Breitling, and they told him that actually the Datora is still in production.... Wierd, as now there are conflicting stories from multiple sources! Does it matter that I live in the UK, and maybe different Breitling regions have different policies?

Breitling doesn't generally announce discontinued pieces, but they did release a list at Basel 2010 and the Datora was on it - that's global. If they are now saying that it is back in production then they have had a quiet change of heart.
