Post subject:  Montbrillant 47 Limited...input from the crowd?

Hi,

Infrequent poster looking for a bit of input.

I am considering the purchase of the steel/red gold Montbrillant 47 LE, which I've settled on after a lot of hemming and hawing over the Navi World and Navi 01 LE, with all its caseback charm

I have seen and tried on the 47 LE in the NYC boutique, both SS/black and two-tone (the silver is truly horrendous, one of the worst dial combos I think B has ever produced). The whole package generally works for me; however I am undecided on the bi-color subdial configuration......not sure how that 'bullseye' effect will play in the wild. I am used to single-color subs and although I have changed my opinion from when the watch was first released (clownish) I still.....don't.....know, mostly on the SS.

I am including pics of the target and my present collection below. I understand the 47 is merely a 'change in format' from the Legende but I think it's enough of a departure that it will nicely augment my hoarde.

Really want to know if anyone has purchased one of these suckers and if so thoughts. I am still p.o.'d at Breitling's design changes but there are still a few diamonds in the rough.

Only you know what it is that you truly like (or dislike). Me, I like the rose gold, especially since I don't have anything in RG yet. I agree that the sub-dials are awfully busy though. Maybe it's time to look at another brand?

Is the third picture the rose gold one? If that's the case then go for the SS.

I'd go with the Navi 01 LE

That's what I would go with as well.

Went with the Monty 47 LE. Visited the NYC boutique again yesterday, tried the Navi and the Monty on multiple times and six different ways to Sunday in three different mirrors and outdoors in natural light. I also looked at the B01, Montbrillant 01 Ltd in gold, and Transocean chrono for comparison's sake. In the end the wrist presence and aggressiveness of the Monty 47 won out (I could not even remotely justify RRP on the Monty 01 Ltd. The B01 is bad enough but God....).

I would likely be in the minority every single time on this particular choice and there are a lot of people who hate these models. However something about the 47 spoke to me. I have several Legendes and really enjoy wearing them, I feel that the fit and finish is one of the best Breitling has produced considering the size and integrated bracelet. I despise leather straps.

I will admit that the silver/black version of this watch is absolutely hideous and potentially one of the worst dial combos Breitling has ever produced. The Black/silver is better, but still not as attractive as the red gold, although I'd throw the black/silver up against the Navi 01 LE in steel or just plain Navi 01 in steel any day of the week. Neither here not there though as I'm not a big fan of all steel models.

Will post pics when it arrives. I am looking forward to it.

I do believe this will be the last B purchase for awhile, or unless and until they radically change their design philosophy. Absolutely nothing else in the line appeals. Think I'm going to start looking at Glashutte, possibly PAM.
