Post subject:  Service

Hi,

I recently purchased a Breitling Hercules. Unfortunately it is not staying wound overnight and when I wake up I have to manually wind the watch again. I wear it about 9 hours a day. Should I send it in for service?

I called the service center and they gave me an automated message with where to send the watch in. However, there were no details provided as to the cost and how I would be billed after sending in the watch? Does anyone have answers to these questions?

Thanks in advance.

If you recently bought it new, then it'll be under warranty and it'll cost you nothing to fix.

However if it's out of warranty then you will have to pay. I'm not sure sure of the cost for a Hercules but my Bentley Le Mans recently returned from a routine full service and that cost £415 GBP ($830 USD-ish), so I'd expect a Hercules to be less as they ramp up the price on Bentleys a bit. I also don't know where you are from so if you are US based expect to pay considerably less than that again.

In terms of payment, if it's like Breitling UK you can ask for an approximate quote up front on the phone, and then you can ask them to phone you or invoice you for the amount after the work is done.

Any idea on the average turn around time for a "tune-up" on the watch?

How much are you winding it?

Maybe you're just not giving it enough of a reserve to get through the night even.

Should be 30 to 40 turns to give a full charge.

Well thats your problem. Dont pull the crown out at all. Just unscrew it and start winding from there. If you pull it out, you begin to change the date, and that doesnt wind anything at all. Again, just unscrew, and start winding clockwise about 40 full turns.

The crown has 3 positions.
The default position when the crown is unscrewed is how you wind the watch.
Pull it out to the first stop, and you change the date.
Next click to the second stop changes the time.
