Post subject:  SOII Red

I'm assuming that most of us got the announcement in our inboxes this morning from Breitling of the red bezel LE version of the SOII.

The wording of the announcement was:

"Ultra-technical, ultra-sturdy and water-resistant to 500 m (1,650 ft), the Superocean Chronograph has already conquered land and sea thanks to its striking appearance and its peerless performances. Breitling now introduces it in a limited edition further accentuating its powerful character – a new alliance of audacity, style and functionality. Its stand-out feature lies in the unidirectional rotating bezel, an indispensable companion for the finest feats in deep waters, which appears clad in red rubber – offering a superb touch of vivid color echoed on the chronograph sweep seconds hand, the counter rings, the date window and the model's signature. Issued in a 2,000-piece limited numbered edition, this super-diver with its youthful and dynamic style houses a high-performance selfwinding movement chronometer-certified by the COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute). The highly readable dial is fitted with oversized hands and hour-markers, underscored by a luminescent coating, as well as a thick sapphire crystal that is glareproofed on both sides. The Superocean Chronograph is a champion of security equipped with a screw-locked crown and pushpieces that can only be activated after being unlocked, as well as a valve serving to balance out differences in pressure inside and outside the case. It comes with a choice of steel bracelet, a strap in rubber or Barenia leather, or the all-new Superocean leather strap with red edges to match its bezel."

Now I don't want to bash on Breitling, and again, it's marketing spin so take it all with a pinch of salt, but am I the only one who finds that a bit cheesy?

Aside from the fact that it's not a dive watch by the ISO standard, this seems like they had a word count to meet and had to pad a bit to get there - "a valve serving to balance out differences in pressure inside and outside the case"

Clearly I am not the target market for such "youthful and dynamic style", but I dunno - I guess I'm just getting old.

Just saw it, and it is another hideous mistake IMO. Ya know, I LOVE my GMT 44, but it seems like a different company that makes that, and then this monstrosity. :? Does anyone really buy these? How does the brand expect people to take them seriously after these abominations? Ok, rant over.......

I'm going to take guidance from the old phrase, "If you can't say anything nice, then say nothing at all". As a result I'm going refrain from saying anything about this "new" watch whatsoever. A simple roll of the eyes will do -

Hhhmmmm, the whole approach smacks of desperation to me. To put it bluntly they seem to be throwing as much sh1t at the wall as the can to see what sticks - and I'm betting it won't be this...

I didn't get it, but I bet it looks better than the all white SOII that club Breitling Israel posted on timezone the other day.

Well yes, but what does it say that this has to be our comparison point?

tough call and I would wear neither, but I can see a market for that white SO,
or is metrosexual passé ?

I disagree, I like the white better! But I'd rather have jock itch than either of them.

I have blocked all emails from Breitling so I didn't get this one... WOW....What a freakin disaster! Love to see how JF spins this one and I can't wait to see how the members of a certain watch forum gush over its beauty.

Can Breitling call a ceramic supplier and buy some damn ceramic bezels!

I'd probably just use my phone if given the choice between those 2. It's funny, when I first saw the picture, I just remembered the attempt at getting a Breitling Source limited edition superocean heritage chrono with the red bezel.
