Afternoon (here at least). As I mentioned in my introduction piece, I've been looking to buy an Aerospace for years (pre-owned unfortunately, budget doesn't stretch to new), but having looked in a jewellers window my eve was drawn to a used yellow-faced M1 Avenger on a Pro Diver rubber strap. It's lovely and I would like to own it. I'm not, however, convinced by the price. Shop window price is £1800, however this is the price I've seen dealers selling similar M1 Avengers on Pro titanium bracelets (ebay item 110862868047 for example). The obvious answer is to buy one like the ebay one, however I like the rubber strap, and I also like the yellow face. I just think it should cost proportionately less than one on a bracelet. Other problems with the watch are that the papers are present but not completed (which should impact ticket price and will most likely impact the value I'd get for it should I sell), it's not boxed and the strap that's on there is damaged (a cut to the rubber) and will need replacing soon. Doing a quick tot up, I reckon with rubber rather than bracelet, the watch should be about £1600. The strap will be £250 or so to replace, so that brings it down to £1350 and I'm sure the lack of papers & box should push it down further, maybe to £1200. But that sounds like a very low price to offer, even though I feel I have justification. What do those in the know think? Is there anything about the M1 that should get me to pay much more than that (I'm trying to think with my head not my heart for once)? For reference, if I bought it at ticket price and then immediately bought a replacement strap, that would put the price exactly the same as I could get a brand new Avenger Seawolf Caliber 17, yellow face on the Pro II strap |

If you're patient, what you want will eventually show up on eBay at the price you want to pay. A yellow M1 on Diver Pro sold for about £1250 recently but was in the US so you'd get stung for VAT/import duty. |

Last time this particular combination was in the Chronolog was 2008 and the price was £1,850. The jewellers one is well overpriced in my opinion. I reckon you could pick one up on the bay for around £400-500 cheaper with a titanium bracelet. |

I suspect that might be a little optimistic on the Ti bracelet, but as I'm actually keen to get the rubber (to make the watch quite different from my Heuer divers' watch) I'm hoping that I should be able to score a nice one around the £1200 mark. Anyway, I made an offer (higher than my original figures working on the basis that they have to make a living), but their revised asking price only came down to £1700 so I've left it. Let the quest continue! |
